Hoboken Photo of the Day – 3/19/2010

Do you have any idea why these signs are here at 12th and Hudson? They make zero sense.

PS – if you have images collecting dust on your camera or hard drive – send them in for eventual inclusion on Hoboken411! Please state how you’d like to be credited in your email, and a description – if desired!!

Does he think the same thing you do?

Haven’t heard much about the Real Estate market recently (other than prices are plummeting) – but Hoboken411 Mascot Oscar seems to notice many more vacancies in town.

He asked me to ask you guys what the realistic numbers may be. And he seems to suspect these “Sale Pending” signs may be a marketing ploy – but I offer no opinion on the subject at this time myself.

    Hard to explain

If you followed the Hoboken411 Twitter feed – you would have read that at around 3:40pm yesterday, a woman crashed her Lexus into a rather innocent tree at 14th and Bloomfield. The woman was taken to Hoboken University Medical Center for injuries, and the three was cut down minutes after the scene was cleared.

As you can see from the pictures Hoboken411 reader beerzgood sent in – it looks like this tree actually prevented the “car gone astray” from smashing into the bus stop just feet to the west. In my twitter post, I asked “who can we blame?” – so without knowing any details about this accident other than the photos below – what do you think the cause of this accident was?

I think this accident happened because:

    Slainte Hoboken!

Since the actual St. Patrick’s Day is this Wednesday, March 17th – here’s a very Irish Hoboken411 Photo of the Day.

Grand Marshal of the 249th NYC Saint Patrick’s Day Parade this year is New York’s City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly photographed here with radio presenter (and Hoboken resident) Sean McCarthy of RADIOIRISH.COM

[Stay tuned for the next Readerpix entry! - Note: one reader's photo(s) will be featured from time to time. Unless your photo is time-sensitive - it will be published in the order it was received! Additional note: Your pictures will have a better chance of being published if they're in "landscape" mode, as opposed to the taller "portrait" modes... ]

    3/10/2010 Update:

Hoboken World War II Memorial now skateboard-proof

Not sure how many of you have noticed the Hoboken WWII Memorial stone which has all the veterans names who’ve sacrificed their lives for the country – now has a complex and ornate metal rail surrounding it. This is to prevent those pesky skateboarders from using this sacred memorial as a “bitchin’” ramp to perform their stunts.

I can’t remember who bore the cost of this and when… anyone?

See FOUR YEARS worth of WWII Memorial updates after the jump!
