You can’t boot yourself!

1/1/2008:

Today marks the last time I’ll feel hungover for quite a while.

Luckily, Hoboken411 reader Dan overheard something last night moronic enough to be posted!

“Heard this on the police radio earlier tonight: At about 10:30 pm a man parked in front of a fire hydrant at 1110 Park, opened his trunk, placed what looked like an official parking boot on his own car, and walked away. Apparently, it was a fake meant to deter the police from towing it. However, a citizen saw him and called the PD, who arrived and called a real tow truck, hauling away both his car and his fake boot…

Nice try, but it doesn’t work if people SEE you putting on the fake boot…”

(I actually have a picture of what a fake boot looks like, but couldn’t find it.. here’s a actual Hoboken parking boot instead.)

First off, “a big friggin idiot” goes out to the clown that put a fake boot in front of the hydrant. Couldn’t you have been more clever in doing it?? And not that I condone doing this behavior, cause your gonna get caught by this town.

As far as the rest of you who agree with snitching…where are you all from, communist Cuba?? Why would you give the parking authority in our town help when they’re not helping the parking situation in town? New streets created with no parking. Triple-car length sized yellow lines on lots of corners with no parking here to corner signs to accompany them. No Standing, No parking signs going down frank sinatra blvd. for absolutely no reason. And you guys are helping them…jeez.

Sinatra Street is the bowels? There’s always plently of parking there.
Anyone who feels the need to call something like that in to the HPD is a busy-body little worm. They should seek counseling for their crippling inferiority complex instead of running around town being a goddamn tattle-tale. I agree the hydrant move was not the brightest but have you ever tried to park in this godforsaken town after 5PM? It’s kill or be killed out there. “Kudos” to any citizen with the skills to figure out an angle for themselves.

Before the eventual backlash note that I said “citizen”. NOT any city employees or members of the HPD. That is just abuse of power and they should be tattled on whenever possible.
It sounds like you have your own angle that you are hoping to protect. If I saw anyone doing this I would call it in as well. And if anyone fails to pick up after their dog I will be photographing them as well.

This goes beyond putting a ticket on your windshield like tremitiedi did. If parking is this bad now imagine if we allowed this kind of shenanigans all over town. If you can’t afford parking then turn in your car for a bike.

the big problem here is the hydrant – otherwise it would be more entertaining. looking for a space for 40 minutes? why not just go straight to the bowels and take a 10 minute walk? much quicker in the long run

As opposed to the fear you are now experiencing when you consider the fact that you can’t get away with this kind of BS?

Yes, I have tried to park around here after 5pm, it’s easy. I pay for a space, great angle right? It took me a whole second or two to figure it out when I thought about buying a car.

Why do you guys automatically conjure up the image of a weak individual when referring to anyone who would call this in? Maybe, in fact, it simply a regular person who just spent 40 minutes looking for a spot only to see this moron park at a hydrant in front of their building.

It doesn’t take a genius to consider the implications in case of a fire.
