Stabbing on 5th Street

12/29/2007:

With most people staring at TV screens tonight, no one probably witnessed a stabbing that occurred about 10-15 minutes in the past in the vicinity of 5th and Madison Street. The victim is currently being tended to by HPD and an ambulance unit is on the way.

The suspects fled eastbound and were last seen near 5th and Adams Streets. They were in a “blue sports type” vehicle with tinted windows. The victim and suspect know each other, as the man who was stabbed said it was “the mother of his child,” so I doubt this person is a threat to others in the neighborhood.

What happened to people just breaking plates or shouting when they got into a fight?

Police are searching the area, as well as the exit points of town.
My point was that personal physical safety for the average person moving into an apartment in the 4th is excellent, and about the same as elsewhere in town.
I can’t agree.

If one person is shooting at another and I am in the area I am absolutely at risk from strayed bullets, from panicked passers by, and from the potential mob assembling to beat the crap out of the shooter’s friends and family.

There are too many drugs in the Housing Authority and Westy is right that the residents and all of us deserve far better. There is also too much of the violence associated with drugs and lack of viable options. I do not pretend this does not exist, but it primarily occurs between folks who have issues with one another.

My point was that personal physical safety for the average person moving into an apartment in the 4th is excellent, and about the same as elsewhere in town.

Yes, the wards suffice.

Westsider’s right…the perception of the projects is totally unfair and blown out of proportion. There are a few criminals down there who commit the majority of the crimes…open containers, public intoxication, possessing / using / distributing CDS, weapons, fights, harassment and, yes, violent crimes.

The other 90% of the people who live there, or try to, are trying to tolerate what they have to and change what they can. How many of you actually know somebody from the projects on a personal level? I doubt it’s very many…b/c based on the way most of you post here, you’re too good or too scared to get to know a real Hoboken person… 😈 …or somebody from …”the projects”… 😯

Let the bashing begin. LOL.
I agree with you completely! To be a decent, honorable human being has nothing to do with economic or educational status.
