After Maxwell’s in Hoboken, NJ

Hoboken Future after Maxwell’s?

Found these fliers downtown early this morning. Looks like sweeping changes are in store after Maxwell’s!

It got me thinking, though – that Hoboken is now what Bedford Falls was to Pottersville in the film It’s A Wonderful Life.”

Times change of course, and things move on… but Pottersville actually seemed kind of fun. Damn you Clarence!

What other inevitable changes should we expect in the post-Maxwell’s era in Hoboken?

Or maybe it’s time for a new space in a new place, with new traditions. Maybe as part of the Monroe Arts Center. Or the Neumann Leather complex. Or the already growing Biergarten. And whatever happened to the performance space that was to be part of a rebuilt Water Music?
A forward thinking new Hoboken administration would build arts zoning into the northwest redevelopment, along with a light rail station and re-establishing direct weekend Hoboken Terminal access for the Tonelle Ave. section.

I really hope that whoever takes it over keeps it a live music venue. With better booking. I know they’re an historic venue and had amazing shows, but I would weekly check their show schedule and maybe 1 or 2 shows a year would get me in there (other than for the occasional beer or meal). And I’m an ex-Tower Records guy, so it’s pretty easy to get me to a show.

I just have the hunch that it’s going to be turned into a full restaurant. Boooooo

Perhaps, the new occupancy will be called ‘Mason’s’….
