Hoboken Lost & Found

11/12/2007:

Hoboken411 reader Sarah reminded me to create a new category today. A “Lost & Found” section. I’ve been meaning to do this for some time.

Whether it’s an item you lost (or found) at the gym, in a cab, on the street, along with missing pets, this is the category you’ll want to come to.

If it happens to be very critical or important, please send me an email (like a lost dog). Pictures of lost pets would be required. I’ll do my best to post something quickly, otherwise just leave a comment in this post.

“Do you have a lost and found section on your web site?

I have left many items in Hoboken taxis over the years and have never had them returned as I think the drivers do not turn them in to police as is their policy.

It would be better if Hoboken residents find something in a taxi to keep it and post it on your web site. This way there is a chance the person can have the item returned.

I recently found some keys near the PATH station bike rack and have posted it on Craigslist but think it would make more sense to post here.”

Hi, I left my black small vera bradley wallet in a yellow hoboken cab last night (Dec 31, 2011.. New years eve) when I was being dropped off right outside of the Hoboken path station. Please let me know if anyone found it or know of a number I can call to locate it!

Found a set of keys outside our office at 89 Willow (corner Newark & Willow) with a blue plastic keyring stating “John 706.” Please come by to describe and claim by 6pm today 3/7/2011. Otherwise we’ll drop them off at the police station.

good for you, and interesting. i wonder, when stuff like this happens (see above for my story), how do they “look you up”? white pages in a phone book? facebook.com? haha
They looked me up on the internet. Yahoo people search or something. They certainly won’t find me on facebook. “White pages”? “Phone book”? I think I recall these things from long ago or from old movies.

They also found my business cards and called my office and emailed me at work. So not only were the finders honest but they expended more than the needed effort to track me down. How cool was that?

Someone found my wallet once, they called blockbuster and told them what it said on my card, and blockbuster gave them my phone number.

In this case my wallet had been stolen, the good stuff taken out, and then left in the ATM vestibule of a bank. Someone found it and tried to get what was left of it back to me.
Ugggh – that’s the nightmare that I avoided. Sadly that’s probably the typical fate of the wallet loser.

Luckily, it was found by an HONEST person who looked me up and phoned me. When I went to their apartment to retrieve it they refused reward. Everything was intact – even the six singles which could have vanished unnoticed.

I am amazed and fortunate that a potentially huge nightmare was averted. The proverbial toast fell off the table but landed butter side up.
