Dawn Zimmer Sends Thanks

11/10/2007:

A message from Dawn Zimmer, winner of the recent 4th Ward re-re-election this past November 6th.

Councilwoman Zimmer Thanks Hoboken411 for Bringing Out the Vote!

Announces Final Vote Counts for the 4th Ward Election

dawn-zimmer-hoboken-headshot.jpg“Thank you Hoboken411 for helping to bring out 2,057 people to vote in the 4th Ward election. After provisional ballots were counted today at the Bureau of Elections, the official vote count showed a 119 margin with 1,088 votes for me, and 969 for Mr. Campos.

I want to thank Hoboken411 for its coverage of the heated 4th Ward battle and for providing a place for everyone to air their opinions on the issues. It was tough to see my name sometimes bounced around like a ping-pong ball, but after three rounds in the ring my skin has this really tough texture to it.

Let’s face it, it’s hip to be on 411 and keep informed. A weekly paper just doesn’t have the same kind of energy as instant news and lively discussions. We appreciate all the work you do behind the scenes to keep the site updated with the latest news. And I know it has got to take a lot of effort to monitor some of those crazy bloggers. Through it all, your work has definitely increased voter participation in the 4th Ward!

I hope we can work together to get more of those young people to take a minute to unplug their iPods, so they can learn what’s happening in their neighborhood. If you live in Hoboken, you should vote in Hoboken, and your site is certainly helping to make that happen!

Thanks again.”

For those eager to analyze the results (including the vote by mail campaigns), here’s a breakdown:

Keep up the voices — truth will out.

Unfortunately, whenever that is done here, the other posters beat you up. That is, if the bias favored “their” candidate.

“but I guess it’s up to us to bring biased reviews to light.”

Unfortunately, whenever that is done here, the other posters beat you up. That is, if the bias favored “their” candidate.

They will usually respond by saying, “Well, this or that newspaper is more biased” because such and such a paper was actually fair and didn’t cotton to their candidate du jour.

But we can expect that – we all have our opinions, we just have to count on all the media to get the information out there and be smart enough to keep reading.

I am a bit dismayed at someone’s comment that her friends claim to have stopped reading other media because it is “biased.” There is a lot of good information they’ll miss.

I just have to say that working on Dawn Zimmer’s campaign was a true pleasure and her win was well earned and very deserved for Dawn and all her supporters.

Maybe Chris Campos will finally be honest about his JC residency and he and McCann can leave Hoboken in Peace.
most boring thread ever. “THE” Election is over, let’s get back to debating who has the best pizza in town.
There are lots of great pizza’s, but the best mutz is from Biancomano’s 😀
I will say that 411 declined to answer whether he writes all the posts, and I’m sure it is because some of us know that the person recapping the council meetings (at least sometimes) is not him, and is thought to be allied with a group in town – which again, is fine, but it’s just somethign you’d want to know. I do NOT think that this person’s name (if it’s who I’ve heard it is) has to be used here, and probably shouldn’t be. But maybe there should be an indication that a citizen recapped something rather than 411. I think everyone should be kept anonymous and as some have said, 411 is heroic for doing so.
You’re right. And yes, someone else does provide the city council recaps for 411 (who hasn’t seen this person vigorously taking notes?), which can potentially bring up issues around bias. I’d like to think 411 edits for objectivity, but I guess it’s up to us to bring biased reviews to light. Yes, I can see your point and understand why a name or screen name should be attached to articles, even as a contributing writer, so we understand the source, and the lens from which a perspective is being written. Because whether we like it or not, truthiness does exist.
