Hobotown – 10/3/2007

10/3/2007:

I usually leave the comments for T.G. Heins’ weekly cartoons up to you guys, but I have an observation about today’s colorful rendering of the Hoboken W Hotel.

I think he cracked the code as to why debris is frequently falling off the 22-story construction site.

The workers are too distracted looking at chicks walk by!

mm333: I can unfortunately relate- it seems more often than not, I am subjected to the pathetic cat calls from construction workers around the city. I understand what you mean by avoiding eye contact. Just today I was breezing past the W construction site (also sped on by my newfound fear of falling concrete) and heard, “hey mami, nice dog,” from several stories above.

I like it. Nice piece.

T.G., is it for sale? I’ll buy it if it is.

It really is disdubing and intrusive. I just moved out of the 333 River St. building, but for the past year I have had to stare straight ahead, so as not to make eye contact with the animals constructing the W. To be by yourself, walking home, carrying bags of groceries, and struggling with keys in your hand as you try to open the side door of the building is one thing, but to have a group of 5 men a few stories up behind you yelling things like, “HEY MAMI. NOW DAS WHAT I’M TALKIN BOUT!” – well, like I said, it’s intrusive & not why I moved to Hoboken & pay high rent.
