Urban Consign & Design
Urban Consign & Design – High end furniture consignment gallery
Now open at 38 Jackson Street downtown, is Hoboken’s first high-end furniture consignment gallery: Urban Consign & Design.
Aiming to modernize the traditional consignment business (the reselling of lightly used, high end home furnishings) Urban Consign & Design offers customers a unique service focused on connecting buyers and sellers in a safe and convenient environment. They renovated a 5000+ square foot old wallpaper factory into a gleaming, funky loft-like gallery unlike anything in Hoboken!
Urban Consign in Hoboken offers luxury furniture at a discount
Founded earlier in 2012, Urban Consign provides luxurious home furnishings for a fraction of their original retail cost. In addition to providing quality merchandise, Urban Consign & Design also believes in simplifying the process for consumers by offering free in-home evaluations and low cost pick up and delivery. They hand inspect all pieces before accepting or reselling in the gallery – you will NOT find IKEA-grade products here.
“We were always amazed of how much furniture goes to waste in Hoboken and Jersey City,” said Cyndi and Paul Fitzgerald, founders of Urban Consign & Design, “There was no safe secondary market for the resale of all this barely used furniture. Everything goes to online classified advertisements, storage or is given away for free. The most common line we’ve heard is “I just spent too much money to just give it away!”
Given Hoboken and Jersey City are transient towns, and the general discontent of movers forced to leave their belongings behind, the husband and wife team saw an opportunity in which they seized. “There is really no reason to pay full retail price for a dining room set in today’s economy, Hoboken and Jersey City are such transient towns most of the items we get in are barely, if ever, used.”
The two believed that by creating Urban Consign & Design, they would offer renovators and decorators alike a “one stop shop” to browse at their leisure, and new residents and homeowners a place to shop for quality items without the markups of retail.
In addition to upscale furniture and household goods, Urban Consign & Design features local artists and amazing photography with a smattering of antiques and other fun things. The gallery currently boasts the works of Richard Satz, one of a kind photography, in one of a kind hand designed frames.

I was in this place a few weeks ago, met the owners. Really nice couple, really nice place. Just seemed like real people selling some nice stuff. Nice space, nice selection. This complex is pretty great with Revival Vintage as well as the other furniture store (cant remember name). Nice addition to Hoboken and defiinitly needed! Good luck to them!

This place meets your needs! If you need things … please come check them out. My husband and I just found the perfect leather bar stools there. We were drooling over other things and were amazed and entertained by the treasure hunting that Paul and Cyndi do to bring great things to their showroom. Now, we also had just moved and we had a piece we just sadly couldn’t keep — Paul offered to see it, saw the potential as it is a beautiful art deco armoire, and now it’s on the sales floor.
So, check them out if you’re a buyer or a seller or a seller or a buyer. I can see them being the go-to as people cycle through homes and needs, you may find yourself on both sides of the relationship with them over and over.
That means new things coming in all the time — so go see for yourself!

Take a walk over and look at their showroom on Jackson St. Their inventory changes daily. Things move out quickly, if you see something you love, take it with you. The space is great…old school Hoboken style.
I met the owners, Paul and Cyndi, before they officially opened the store. We had a sofa and a chair that we wanted to move out of our apartment, and I saw their ad in the Reporter.
I contacted Paul, and he came over the next day to look at our furniture. Two days later he had his movers at my place. The movers were professional and fast, no worries dealing with that part of the process.
The store was open less than 3 weeks and our things were sold. It was so simple. Paul makes it a very easy process. If you are selling or buying, Urban Consign would be my first stop. It is a great family owned business to have in Hoboken.
