Unsolved Hoboken hit & run mystery

Today, we have a reader who’s new car was struck by a hit & run driver on Sunday, September 9th 2007. The car was apparently hit by a 4-door black Honda Accord. If you have any information about this, or were a witness to this incident please email him at hitnrun33@gmail.com. Doesn’t look bad, but the axle got bent, and cost him a pretty penny.

“I’m a big fan of hoboken411.com and i read it every day. I live uptown on Clinton street, and was the victim of a hit and run on 9/9/07. Someone hit my parked car over the weekend up by Rite Aid, and left without leaving a note. So I now have a 2 month old car with $4500 worth of damages. A witness left the make and model of the car that hit me, but nothing else. Perhaps one of your readers witnessed this event and can help me?”

we have lots of unsolved hit and runs in this town, some more serious than car on car. 4th ward councilperson zimmer’s father-in-law was KILLED by a hit and run driver several years ago over by 333 river street and no suspects were ever apprehended.

driving is a privlege, not a right. vehicles in motion driven by undertrained drivers, driven by distracted drivers (texting, drinking coffee, talking on cell phones, watching movies, reading 411 on their blackberries) are essentially unguided missles. the fact that after hitting things while driving irresponsibly they do not own up to their actions is shameful.
I had damage to my car on the side facing the sidewalk side on Sinatra Street. They told me it wasn’t considered valdalism and probably happened from a garbage truck.
I had the hood of my car completely dented in a few years back. You could see the shoeprints in the dust on the dents from where someone jumped up & down. Cops said it wasn’t vandalism, but rather “accidental”.
Wonder what Hoboken’s crime stats really are? This is how things are reported (or are avoided being reported) around here.

i once heard that the old woman who owns the Marie’s Bakery property that is currently underconstruction owns that corner lot. it’s the one that has the lovely 6′ weeds growing outta control.

Does anyone know who owns the lot on the corner of 2nd and Park? My car has been getting mauled lately too. I have a bumper badger which helps, alot but people still manage to smack into it.

I have been looking for a gargage but there is nothing available near me that makes sense. The garage on 77 Park is a joke. It used to take me longer to figure out how to strategically fit my car into the spot than it would be find a spot on the street.

roughly 9 years ago when i moved into town, parking was not nearly as much of an issue. the unwritten rules at that time were pretty much that you can’t block a fire hydrant, crosswalk, or driveway – just about everything else was fair game. between then and now, a LOT of condos have been built, enforcement is up, and parking has gotten markedly worse..

hoboken should definitely look to increase the yearly parking fees. and i like your idea of zoned parking. simple market economics dictates that based on the obvious lack of and high demand for parking spaces, the privilege of parking on the street should come at a price, one that the market can bear. in this case, it’s surely a hell of a lot more than $15 / year…
