7/30/2009 FINAL UPDATE!!!!
Maureen Skea, co-owner of Spreading the News (life is good) – wants to remind everyone that tomorrow is their final day! Pick up some sweet deals on remaining merchandise – and even some store fixtures and furniture! We’ll miss you guys!
Thanks for the memories!
Hi Everyone,
Just a “last call” to let everyone know that we will be closing the doors on Friday, July 31st at 7:00 PM.
We have alot of Youth sizes left – 5-12 – Long Sleeve Tees, Short Sleeve Tees, PJ’s, Sweatpants and Sweatshirts. A good jump start on back to school shopping. There are some Men and Woman, but not much! No baby at all and just a few toddler sizes left.
We also have some furniture/fixtures available:
Armoires, Wall Shelves, Sofa Tables, Wooden Bar, Microwave Cart, File Cabinet and Mannequins!
Please stop by, or pass the word along. And thank you all, so very much, for all your support. Remember – Life is good!!!!!
Regards,
Maureen and Beth
7/10/2009 Update:
Spreading the News: Life is good has decided to discontinue their operation here in Hoboken.
Thanks the community
The owners sent this email out explaining their situation:
“As the saying goes, “All good things must come to an end”, and unfortunately, for us, that means our business.
There are MANY reasons for this announcement, not the least of which is the economy. Maureen, Greg, Mary and I have all had life changing experiences in the last year in the death of a parent. We have also had some health issues between us as well. All of these situations, along with a struggling economy have forced us to decide what was best for all of us. The answer was to cut our losses and move on.
We are very proud of what we created in Hoboken and very, very sad to see our hard work become a statistic in what has been a difficult economic environment. We still believe in the brand – what it stands for and the quality of its products. We hope you will continue to support Life is good going forward as they spread good vibes and optimism worldwide.
WE WILL BE LIQUIDATING OUR INVENTORY AS WELL AS OUR FIXTURES/FURNITURE. SO PLEASE, STOP BY AND GET SOME GREAT DEALS ON SOME GREAT DUDS OR JUST TO SAY GOOD-BYE!
Thank you all for your support and remember: You will never know all the good a simple smile can do! Life is still good.
Beth, Maureen, Greg and Mary”
10/27/2007:
Now open!
People were piling in the new “Life is good” store “Spreading the News” in Hoboken today.
9/14/2007:
Taking the place of the old Chloe Rose Carpet store is “Spreading the News“, which is a “Genuine Neighborhood Shoppe” (GNS) for the Life is good brand of clothing, accessories, home furnishings and other merchandise.
This Life is good shoppe will be exclusive to the Hoboken vicinity, despite numerous other individuals who were interested in opening a similar establishment in the area.
Sisters Maureen Skea, and Beth Sarre own and will operate this “GNS” in Hoboken. They hope to be open in the next month or two. The Hoboken store will be the fifth NJ location out of over 85 Life is good spots in the country.
While the “Genuine Neighborhood Shoppes” are not considered franchises per se, they still need to operate within specific parameters. The merchandise, store fixtures, layout and color theme must be consistent with the Life is good brand, and acquired directly from the company.
The Life is good corporation seems to also care about the communities they allow their merchandise to be sold in. They participate in many local festivals, as well as give back to the community with endeavors such as the Life is good Kids Foundation, which has raised more than $2 million dollars in the past three years.
They’ll be selling branded merchandise & clothing for women, men, kids, toddlers and even pets! Stay tuned as they progress through their development process.
Has anyone purchased the Life is good brand? If so, what are your feelings about it?

I heard the owner was so sick and tired of stroller moms and screaming brats and was forced to sell, or mental hospital was the next stop.

I always thought that that was his target crowd because he hired a bunch of retards to work there.
I just thought he couldn’t deal with the a$$hole staff that he employs. I have owned a couple of businesses and never new someone that thought they new more then the customers.
Crappy food, poor service and bad attitude – maybe a bunch of monkeys would have done better.

Did your staff know the difference between knew and new? How about then and than? That would be key.

Well even if that is true, I have no sympathy for anyone who opens a business like this all the while forgetting that they will be serving the public. Stroller moms and brats included.
Roll with the punches or get a desk job.

Sorta sucks for everyone. I liked the type of food this place served and i thought it was really a unique place. I guess it will be a band or another Sushi place with an even bigger light show out front

if someone asked me what my best trait was, I would have to admit when ‘I am wrong I’m wrong…..’
My mother informed me three days before Christmas that all my aunts and uncles were joining us. For years I have begged for a grab bag, secret Santa but never won.
This year, completely confused as to what I would buy 10 aunts and uncles I stopped in here last minute. Not only was Maureen so sweet and helpful but I ended up getting my family gifts they loved!
For 20 bucks each I got them all high quality t shirts which ranged from golf logos to cups of coffee with American flags.
Long story short, all of them simply adored the gifts I gave which offered a personal touch, all for 20 bucks and Marilyn the owner wrapped each one of them in a “Spreading the News” from Hoboken which they ended up liking more than the shirts themselves.
Anyways, a personal tip to the people who read this. If you need to find a good gift last minute but want a personal touch, check this place out. Hit of the party!!

It’s a cute store. The owners are very nice. I bought a cute book for $20.00 The profits went to an organization that Life is Good either started or are involved with.

Oh no… I loved them!
Every time I was in a bind and looking for a gift this was the perfect place. The ladies who ran it were absolutely wonderful and took so much pride in wrapping the purchases and adding that special touch.
So sad to see them go and wish them all the best.

I agree. I hate going to foo-foo places in town for gifts. This place sent a simple and comforting message through their items. Made me smile.
