Fire 7th & Willow

Workers tarring a roof apparently started a fire near 717 Willow Ave. at around 10:30am today.

Fire was under control at around 11:15am, and no serious injuries reported other than one firefighter with a minor eye injury, and another with a slight hand injury.

Nearby neighbor John sent this cameraphone picture in.

The emergency response was unreal and b/c of that there was minimal damage done. Only minor roof damage, that is it. The responsible party is a local roofer, not the general contractor.

How about the important things like a bit of praise to all three emergency services for a prompt response and a second boost to HFD for their prompt work to contain the fire and keeping it from spreading.

A common way to increase the chances of setting your building on fire while doing this type of roofing is to cut corners by not installing the proper base sheeting first. I see this take place all the time in Hoboken.
