It happened to me recently too! I waited on line for a half hour, figured the place must be bumping, and it was empty inside! What a joke the Shannon is. It must suck to have McSwiggans kicking your ass night after night though.

its not a fake line. It seems that way because the front is empty and most people are in the back room. The occupancy is for the whole bar. It seems like they should have a higher occupancy than they are allowed. If they could be serving more booze they would be, they dont need a fake line they are doing great business.

I’ve got to go with hobokenj on this one.

I think not. The back of the bar was half empty too. If its an occupancy problem, then they really should look into it. You can barely even move in some bars; McSwiggans and Green Rock come to mind. Shannon never used to have a line. Its a recent thing. I have a hard time imagining that suddenly the place has become a hot spot, coinciding with the reopening of McSwiggans.

the place is probably twice as big as mcswiggs, if you include the back room/auditorium. but has a low fire code occupancy rating. they are very careful not to exceed their limit. you could have their full capacity in the back playing pool/darts/foosball/dancing/drinking with have enough room to swing a dead cat, and the front would look empty.
i wonder what the capacity rating is for East LA?

there has been a line to get in this place since they renovated and every 21 year old goes there for cheap booze. Mcswiggans is expensive now and is trying to change there clientele from what it was. Shannon is just getting more business.

Even though its big inside I belive the caqpacity has to do with people getting out in a timely manner. If you packed taht place like other bars no way everyone gets out the front door before the place burns to ground.

it’s no different than East LA in that respect, except Shannon doesn’t have a kitchen, and East LA has deep fryers.

i went there once–they had some guy playing acoustic guitar up front–he didn’t know any cat stevens, neil young or any other great songwriter–he only knew dave matthews and the killers. Fitting.

  10. Lady says:

I believe the Shannon’s occupancy is low because of some old law on the way it is step up with the stage in the back.

411 — can you find out what the deal is?

I had a HORRIBLE experience here yesterday (st. pattys day). After waiting in line for an hour and paying 20$ to walk in the door (expected) I went out for a cigarette only to be told by the guy at the door that I was too intoxicated to go back in…only I was not. He would not tell me anything specific that I did to show him I was too intoxicated. He just kept repeating that as I tried to explain to him that all of my things were inside-my purse with my phone, money and keys-as well as all of my friends and my way of getting home. He completely ignored me until my friends finally came out to check on me. I understand that these people are dealing with drunk assholes all day but I was a paying customer minding my own business. Sure, I had a few beers, but it was a St. patricks day celebration in an Irish bar…EVERYONE was drunk! I do not appreciate how I was treated and will never be returning to the Shannon.
