Thanks, I saw the gym in person and while it is very nice inside the place was packed. So I am going to heavily consider LABoxing as well. Went in there around the same time and ony about 10 people taking a class and none of the machines were in use.

last night was awful i agree–that’s not the norm, though–if you can wait out Mondays in Jan and Feb, it becomes usable again. I’ve heard good things about LA Boxing, though.

Well I have picked a place and Club H it is. Going to check it out tonight for the first work out. Has anyone had any issues int he locker rooms with thefts? I need a lock and was wondering if I need to go secure or if the basic lock will be just fine. Also, how do the lockers work? Can you use them all day? I’m thinking of dropping a gym bag off in the morning so I don’t have to bring it with me to work. They have shampoo and all that good stuff there already right? I guess i need some shower sandals too?

I don’t know of any theft issues, but a regular lock should be fine. The gym has all the essentials like shampoo, etc, but yes you should bring shower sandals. It seems most people don’t use them there, which is rather gross.

Thx falcon. I had a feeling there would be a lot of gross people running around shoeless there. Probably the same people who will flip out if the guy making their bagel isn;t wearing a hair net.

Club H members–Alicia is teaching a new spin class on Fridays at 9:15 for an hour. It’s not on the schedule yet but if you are interested in the time, go! I believe whether it gets put on the permanent schedule depends on how many people show up. This will be the third week.

This gym is getting a thumbs down from me after the shenanigans they have pulled this past week. Many members joined because of their well advertised indoor basketball court. However, the gym has steadily added workout classes to the schedule that require full use of the basketball court. The only day w/o a class interrupting a steady flow of games is Wednesday. The kicker is that some of the classes require an additional fee on top of the membership cost so we clearly know where the club owners priority lies. Extremely frustrating that we can’t have one gym that doesn’t screw you over after you join!

That sucks. As much as i liked Empire I have grown to like Club H. The staff is pretty friendly too.

That’s been going on forever. The 6 guys playing 3 on 3 angry about not being able to play basketball after work on Tuesdays.
I agree with you that it’s annoying. Not a deal breaker, but annoying.

I canceled my membership a month ago, joined another gym.
What are they charging extra for? What classes are going on in the gym now?
They used to have a Tuesday Boxing Class, but I could never make it because of another class anyway.

I believe Tuesday and Thursday are still the boxing classes. I didn’t stick around long enough to see what the M/F class was but apparently 5 people showed up tot he last one.
If it were just 6 guys playing basketball I could understand, but the court usually has 6 guys playing and at least 4 waiting to get one right after them. Games are to 7 and move quickly. Looks like i need to sun to come back out so I can just play outdoors.

I tried CH a couple years back on a one-week free trial and was underwhelmed. I found it only marginally better than my incumbent club (NYSC) but a lot more expensive. I didn’t sign up.

I was getting double charged on my monthly dues + charges on cafe crap that I never purchased so anyway I put in my termination and decided to really do my homework before spending my money. After visiting multiple clubs in the area it is by far Skyclub to be the gem compared to any other club in Hoboken and I was really nervous about it because I read so much negative stuff on here about the club. I gotta tell you that whatever went on their whether its true or not is in the past and the equipment is be far superior to anything else in Hoboken especially for me cause I love the cardio and they just got all new treadmills with Ipod capability and a pool thats amazing. I just hope it doesnt get too crowded cause then I would be very upset. Anyways gotta go back to work and for all you guys I was friendly with at H club be happy and stay healthy.

Here’s my weekly rant… and it happens to fall yet again on Club H.
I have been going there pretty hardcore the past few weeks in anticipation of a debaucherous spring vacation. At least 8 of the universal machines in the front and middle sections have been out of order for weeks. Namely the “back crunches” machine by the women’s locker room. It’s the only one they have and it’s always broke. The TV’s for the cardio machines don’t work or barely work or, the ones that do work, only have like 8 channels. The barely working ones have fuzzy pictures and staticy sounds.
They shut down their cafe at 10:00pm, not 10:30 as advertised. The trainers make their clients use the ridiculous sleigh pulling “machine” which takes up 50% of the middle floor space. There’s 2 decline free moving benches. One is in the smaller free weight room and used exclusively for abs and the other is in the bench press section without a bar that can be used for decline press.
The towels reak of chlorine (probably bleach) and will get taken from you by the cleaning people if you turn your back for a second.
All this and it costs more than HAC (which sucks but is priced accordingly) and I have to flippin walk on the waterfront in the dead of winter to access the gym… instead of them using the door away from the water which could be equipped with a temporary winter setup. Club H = overpriced, crowded, broken machines, broken TV’s, closing early cafe (with unhealthy shakes, despite what they advertise) and really nothing special to offer for the premium service they claim to offer.
My service ends in September and I can’t wait to leave. Maybe I’ll check out Sky Club, I love to swim.

I quit this gym months ago and it was the best decision I ever made. I finally did my homework and joined SkyClub and I gotta tell you it is by far the most awesome club available to Hoboken residents of all ages. I was so sick of all the crap at H-club and all the perverts staring at me everywhere I went like crazed animals. I was getting double billed and charged for stuff I never purchased and I can on and on about that crap hole but I wont waste both our time. I did however join Skyclub a few months back and it was the best decision I ever made as far as health clubs go. This place blows the doors of that crap hole and everyone is like family there and its so much more personal there. The only negative thing about the club is its starting to get crowded there but the members are so much more respectful of one another that it doesnt matter to me cause for me its like my second home and I love working out at the club. The pool is awesome, the european sauna is to die for and club itself is a winner in my book. By the way FYI the h-clubs are all up for sale I’m hearing on the street so thats why nothing is getting fixed and its deteriorating rapidly. NOT THE CASE AT SKYCLUB IT ROCKS

CHAPTER155.. you said that club h is cheaper than HAC? I’m abotu to join a gym and just went into HAC and they told me its $76 for the first month (okay.. good so far) then it would be $99 for each additional month after that. NYSC is cheaper than that! I was thinking of joining HAC because I thought it was cheap.. or so I heard.. but it seems its just the same as the other gyms. Unless I’m missing something… ?
