Hoboken Week in Review – 7/29/2007

hoboken-astro-turf-sample.jpgSlower week than usual, but it doesn’t mean Hoboken didn’t have it’s share of silly City Politics, comings and goings, and more.

Feel free to send tips, rants, comments, and suggestions to: Hoboken411@gmail.com.

Here are some select items that were covered in the past week…

News, items of importance:

  • Notable Assault – Most violent crimes are looked over by most people. This anti-gay bias attack draws more attention.
  • Gravity Kills – A security guard at Marineview plaza jumps to his death.

Town Government:

Events:

New, Updated or Coming Soon:

  • Pizza (x 7) – Old mainstay late-night pizza joint finally re-opens 15 months after it closed.
  • Battaglia’s – Placeholder created for the expanding home furnishings store that is under construction uptown.
  • Maybe soup for you – Local business owners decide to bring “The Original Soup Man” to Hoboken. Some people are happy, others are doubtful. Either way, it oughta be tasty.
  • Juicy – Discussion about Re.Juice.a.Nation uptown.
  • Prison Wall broken – The un-friendly wall around the teeny Maxwell Place project is getting a new opening.

Leaving Town, screwed, or mucked up:

  • Green Grass

Reviews:

  • Out of Hoboken – A new “video review” of the much improved Arthur’s Landing in Weehawken. It was great, and will be visited again.
  • NJ Pizza – Hoboken411 tags along with The Star Ledger in a quest for pizza euphoria.
  • Out of Hoboken – A new “video review” of the much improved Arthur’s Landing in Weehawken. It was great, and will be visited again.

Reader Mail Bag:

  • Poop, Garbage or both? – Heated discussion about what is garbage, and whether dog poop bags belong in your fancy refuse bin.

Fun, Games, Miscellaneous Stuff:

  • How’s the Market? – More discussion about the state of the real estate market, and whether Hoboken and the NYC tri-state area is immune.
  • New Hoboken411 Writer! – “Hoboken Clarissa” writes a short snippit about Devotion Yoga’s kids program.
  • OUT! – I explain why it’s ok to ban some people from commenting on Hoboken411.

Notable incidents, crimes, fires:

  • Spray Paint – A reader is upset about punks defacing Stevens Institute. Not many 411 readers seemed to say much, since most of them probably never go there.

Recent Town Incidents:

It’s misdirection. Celebrities don’t want people to envy their massive wealth so they point at everyone who is not them.

The gullable know the reality but want to believe the preposterous. Why? Because they all want to be entertained.

So you’re against yuppies, but you’re all for celebrities moving to town? Honestly, I think it’s time we all chipped in and bought you a gift for doing such an outstanding job as our Village Idiot.

Yeah, the Bon Jovi thing is suspect because of that! Glad you’re on the case Krewedetat. But it will be interesting if celeb do come here. Maybe Bon Jovi can be the next Sinatra Park concert series, opening for Gene D Plumber, LOL

A-Rod will probably cut his taxes in half. And the rest of the rich and famous will also benefit from the tax abatement that the W condos will enjoy.

By the way, his real last name is not Bon Jovi.
