New Hoboken Graffiti: TOAK

TOAK graffiti appearing in various uptown Hoboken locations

There is no doubt whatsoever that graffiti is on the rise in Hoboken.

Whether you want to put the blame on the economy, less Hoboken police presence or the complete lack of spacial awareness from the general populous due to excessive smartphone self-absorption – it’s definitely a nagging issue.

We now have a new (and prominent) graffiti vandal using the tag “TOAK.”

My guess is that he (or she) is likely referring to what is normally called TOKE (which is the act of inhaling a marijuana cigarette), but the Urban Dictionary does give some “credibility” to his spelling.

I kind of doubt they mean “Two Of A Kind…”

Regardless of what this petty vandal means with his letters – physically defacing the property of others is just disrespectful.

Graffiti is evidence of a “vibrant” community with a “rich cultural heritage.” We should celebrate it. Don’t you read the Times?

No doubt annoying and disrespectful, but I find your photos fantastic, 411! What kind of camera are you using?
