Where do you go to unwind?

Getting out of Hoboken has many benefits!

Many people are stuck in the weekly grind of going to work, juggling tons of responsibilities, trying to make ends meet – only to have a few short breaks – or even saving vacation days for the once or twice yearly trip outside of town.

But what about each weekend?

Some folks are so pooped out from work, they just love to unwind here in town. Whether it’s loafing around on the sofa catching up on the trusty DVR – or enjoying (one too many) cocktails at one of Hoboken’s many bars & restaurants – chilling out here locally sometimes has it’s benefits.

It’s definitely easier and less expensive than traveling, but after a couple days you’re back in the rat race again – with not much to show for it other than maybe a hangover or a few extra Zzz’s.

De-stress in the wilderness?

For years, I thought that even taking a brief weekend day trip was “more headache than it was worth,” focusing on the negatives rather than the good. Frankly, a bit of laziness and mixed up priorities might have also contributed to remaining tethered to what was easy and familiar here in Hoboken.

However, a couple weeks ago, Hoboken411 Mascot Oscar and I took a trip hundreds of miles north to the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

A tent, some sleeping bags, and a positive attitude went a long way. Within just hours – experiencing the peace and quiet, gorgeous fall foliage and honestly – the lack of a cell phone signal – quickly brought a new-found appreciation for life, and what is important.

Unplugging from your usual routine – and all of the frenetic gadgetry and communication over-kill that surrounds us is a prescription everyone should cash in on more often!

New Hampshire is gorgeous. We hit the mountains this summer. Love that wasn’t that far a trip away from home.

I have no problem pretending my cell doesn’t exist whenever we go away!

I went up to the White Mountains a few years back; it’s gorgeous up there! I’m guessing the leaves were starting to change? It must’ve been breathtaking. The air is so clean there too…
