New Stop Signs – 15th & Wash

Forgot to upload the picture of the lovely painted letters “STOP” on the street.

6/22/2007:
People used to crossing Washington Street driving on 15th were greeted with a surprise this week.

New 4-way stop signs are now in place at each entry point. Will this turn into yet another traffic bottle-neck in Hoboken?

Another reader warns residents to be reminded of this, or face summons.

“Apparently some new stop signs were placed in front the Tea Building yesterday, and motorcycle cops were out in full force this morning enforcing the new stop signs. Not sure if this is considered breaking news, but might want to let your readers know. If I hadn’t have seen the police pull three people over before I made it to the newly installed stop sign, I’m sure I would not have noticed it as I drive that way every morning.”

I just hope that once school starts again in September that they have lots and lots of cops pulling people over and ticketing them for going past all the schools, driving more than 25 mph.

I know this belongs in the Rant Corner, but one of my pet peeves in this town is how dangerous it is to walk to school in the morning with all the cars trying to get out of town going to work.

I’m constantly shocked at how many cars don’t stop when I am trying to cross the street with my children. I’m in the crosswalk with a stroller and two kids (and my neighbor’s two kids), and still they’re in such a rush to get to work that they can’t let us cross.

Leave for work a few minutes earlier, or better yet drive down some other road besides Garden Street where there are multiple schools.

I haven’t seen the ones on Madison/Monroe yet, but are they also ~20 feet up in the air? Even with the flashing lights, I really hope that drivers are watching the road more closely than the skies, so I think they might stand to lower these a bit if they want them to be effective…
