Free Kayaking days

7/31/2007 Update:

They’ve added one more day of free kayaking. The final day of free kayaking will be August 25th from 12noon to 5pm in Sinatra Park.

5/26/2007:
If you ever want to get out and try some kayaking on the Hudson River, the Hoboken Cove Boathouse has some days this summer you can give it a whirl!

The first day is Sunday June 10th, from 11am to 4pm over at Sinatra Park. Other planned dates are June 24th, July 8th, and July 21st. August 25th is reserved as a raindate. Not sure why they would have a raindate when you’re already wet and in the water…

From HobokenCoveBoathouse.org:

If you would like to paddle a sit-on-top kayak across river with us-or help run our free kayak program that day… contact: dragonsandy1@yahoo.com
The river trips are about an hour long, must be reserved in advance, and you must know how to swim if you are going to paddle!
See you on the river!

Hoboken Cove Community Boathouse is gearing up for the Summer 2008 season. Due to the construction of Pier C near Frank Sinatra Park, the program will move to the new Maxwell Place Park (11th St. and Sinatra Drive).

Please stay tuned for free family kayaking dates as well as other special trips.

I hope the park at 1600 Park includes a small boathouse and outlet for kayaking in Hoboken Cove. That area looks perfect for Hudson River kayaking.

The current ad-hoc kayaking at Sinatra Park, don’t get me wrong, but a permanent facility to accomodate this would be much better.

I’m looking forward to the Aug 25th final kayak day.

I did the trip from hoboken to manhatten and it was awesome. So much fun. Just make sure you bring enough money to get home from manhatten cause your on your own getting back to hoboken.

Before 9/11 when another kayaking company was doing this, I did a kayaking tour of the Hudson during sunset. When the setting sun was just at the same level as the World Trade Center, ie, reflecting off the buildings, it was absolutely spectacular! I will never forget that image.
