Scooter wastes parking spots!

Is parking your scooter like this really necessary?

Hoboken411 reader Tamara was irritated enough by the parking job of this miniature scooter to snap a photo and asks “Please post attached pic as proof of idiot parking….. why does this idiot park this way? Can you please post this and ask that his/her toy be parked not in this fashion?”

I’m a future scooter owner and I think this guy is a total jerk. Small scooters, such as this one, are meant to be parked perpendicular to the curb. Since they are light (~ 300 lbs), I would take it off its stand, move it near a car and park it correctly.

I’d be shocked if the city of Hoboken would ever address this issue. I’m really not sure what they do yet our property taxes are outrageous. This guy is playing the game, and while there is merit in life to doing that, this “entitled” crap mentality people have is unnecessary and makes everyone worse-off.

As for motorcycles, it more depends on what kind of a bike you have. Small 250cc bikes should try to make an effort to not be a-holes. However, a lot of bikes I see tend to be bigger and you can’t fault them for taking up a spot on the street.

Just want to say, I pay more to register my motorcycle than my car. When I park my bike, I am liable to get the same ticket as a car. If I take a whole car size spot when I park my bike, too bad.

A scooter is a motorcycle. He’s parked like this because being the only one parked perpendicular would probably get him ticketed, and he’d inevitably get clipped by a nitwit driver who swoops too close to the wheel without noticing him. This way he’s protected laterally by the cars. And because this is how he’s supposed to park.

I could be wrong, but Im thinking motorcycles rarely get ticketed for parking perpendicular to the curb…..I may be wrong, but I just havent seen many tickets on motorcycles for being parked in that fashion….

It’s not that he/she parks parallel to the curb, its the manner in which he/she is parking. Look at the pic, there is about 5 ft in front and behind this scooter. This is the problem. This is not how he/she is supposed to park, this is how he/she parks to save themselves a spot! It is rude and self serving. This person is a jerk, bottom line.[quote comment=”209183″]A scooter is a motorcycle. There is an orange Vespa always parked like that around 10th & Garden. I think if you can lift your vehicle off the ground, you shouldn’t park it in a spot like regular cars. I’ll let PT Cruisers and Mini Coopers slide.
