Reader Mail: Matrimonial Mayhem!

hoboken-matrimonial-question.jpgToday, we have a regular Hoboken411 reader on a time-sensitive mission for some quality assistance from a fellow “411er”. Sounds like her ex-husband is pulling some dirty tricks, and she has her back against the wall.

Are there any matrimonial lawyers that can help this reader out? If so, please email me and I’ll forward that information to the individual. She’d appreciate it greatly!

“Dear Hoboken411,

I’m a fellow HB411er on the lookout for a fellow HB411er matrimonial attorney who can help me on the understanding of a particular issue brought to my attention yesterday by my former husband’s attorney. As I am currently Pro Se, his attorney worked his litigious magic yesterday by throwing a nugget at me before the Judge. Luckily I had enough snap to tell the judge I couldn’t possibly argue my case without more knowledge on the subject matter. She has given me only 5 days to get her an answer. If my argument isn’t good enough, I could stand to lose equitable distribution of our major asset. It’s regarding the division of a condo. Any attorney’s (pro bono) help is truly appreciated!”

I’m no lawyer but let’s not be stupid here — get one.
I’ve been a practicing attorney for almost 4 years. Here’s my advice- listen to everyone above, and pay an attorney who specializes in divorces (something I don’t do). There’s no way you can compete with a lawyer who specializes in this area on your own.
Agreed – I’ve been practicing for two years, and Katie_Scarlett is absolutely correct. I can refer you to some matrimonial attorneys that I know in the Morristown area, but you will have to put down a retainer – I’d say chances are just about zero that you’d find a matrimonial attorney to handle your case pro bono…
