Some sinkholes are property owner’s issues

Hoboken Sinkhole Update on Washington St.

Yesterday, we mentioned the potential sinkhole on Washington St. between 11th & 12th. Apparently, this problem has been developing for a couple weeks.

United Water: “It’s the property owner’s problem”

Here’s what Board of Education member (and Committeeman 2-5) Peter Biancamano had to say about it:

“Councilwoman Beth Mason and I have been working together for weeks now to try to fix the problem before it gets to the point of being an actual sinkhole.

I finally spoke to a United Water supervisor this morning and he informed me after inspecting the issue, the problem needs to be fixed by the owner of 1117 Washington Street as it is there main water line causing the ditch.

When I asked why it was the owner’s responsibility to fix a ditch in the middle of our main avenue, he informed me that in Hoboken, the main pipes run through the streets sometimes causing the streets to cave. So the owner will have to get a plumber to fix the issue, hopefully sooner than later as the ditch is getting worse and worse.”

There’s another long crack on Sinatra Drive, on the road, from like 4th through sixth streets or so, maybe even beyond sixth. Noticed it last night while strolling towards the fireworks action.

Yeah, it can’t be that moisture and the stink/litter caused by humans could possibly be linked to infestations.

Here’s hoping a flock of geese poops on your bald spot.
The lonley mush mosh..We shall call you MOTHER GOOSE…You forgot the water dept was outsourced by former mayor russo.. hob had their own dept that did a great job.One thing you forget is on whos watch all this nonsense has festered..The night of the fireworks many people witnessed insects ,roaches iin the sink hole and other places..near the turning point..My take is the geese are the reason..bring one home with you girl.. luv yea oh year forgot the termintes and worms under the piers.I just love geese. If by “stink” you refer to the… unique odor emanating from your diaper then, yes, I know it.
mush mooshe you should know about stink..Mother goose.. yeah they crap on your door step..your are one beauty …flub a dub.
Shouldn’t United Water fix it and just bill the customer?

North hold that tought.no pun or jabs but an analogy of the bulls##t politics that is going on..Consider the old water and sewer lines some wood since the civil war..By the way whats so civil about a war? In the past 25 years with the development in this below sea level town how many heavy semis rigs craines have navagated our streets including washington st ? Politicans wanna dance they pay the band..How could that crack on washington st be the fault of the residents..River road also has lots of heavy traffic aka Sinatra Driive over the years….The inclement weather played a large part in the rippiled streets..Bring back our own water dept..costwise maybe cheaper..If the law has not changed I believe an ordenance said a home owner is responsible for just 18 inches from their curb..Now water mains comes into play..dump united water.their a liability. 🙁
Shouldn’t United Water fix it and just bill the customer?
I agree. It makes no sense that a public utility and the City could allow the negligence of a private property owner to endanger the public. Can’t United water step in and then assess a special service charge (or deposit required for the continuance of service) in order to offset the cost of repairs? Another ridiculous situation!
Shouldn’t United Water fix it and just bill the customer?
