What are those SquidJob signs?

Squidjob.com: Convenient Local Services in an Inconvenient World

What’s more painful—falling off of the roof while trying to clean out your own gutters? Or finding a local company to do a good job at a fair price?

I’m not sure, but the guys over at Squidjob.com, a Hoboken based startup, make sure you won’t have to deal with either.

Anonymous bidding; Reliable companies

Squidjob has made it dead simple to get any of your household needs handled fast.

Just go on their website, type up what you need done and by the time you get home from work you’ll have bids from 4 to 5 reliable companies describing their price and plan for your service project.

So if you’re tired of the standard Hoboken racket, Squidjob is an easy way to hire a company from outside the mile-square, or just get a sense of what you should expect to pay for a given service.

Plus, they withhold your name and contact information until you choose a business, so you know that companies aren’t gouging you based on where you live or how much money they think you have.

And the best part? This promising young web company works right in our backyard! They moved from Garden street uptown to 9th a couple of months ago and CEO Liam Pfeiffer tells me that they intend on making Hoboken the capital of their imminent Internet empire.

So if you have a couple jobs around the house that you’ve been meaning to get done, just head over to Squidjob.com and get things going. They have hundreds of local businesses registered on their site, covering everything from photography and handyman services to car detailing and apartment cleaning, so they can handle just about anything.

First off, thank you for the article Perry. We really appreciate the support.

Dr. Chico –

All 11 of us at Squidjob would like to help you through the confusion.

On Squidjob, consumers post something they need done: e.g. http://www.squidjob.com/#!job_order_detail/jid=241

Then, our system contacts our registered businesses who service that particular area and they have the opportunity to submit a bid for that job. It’s not a reverse auction, however, the consumer can select any bid (often ratings and scheduling play a role).

Hope you’re able to differentiate our business model from servicesource.

If not, email us at thesquid@squidjob.com and we can assist further.

Best,

The Squid

I’ll give these guys a shot. Hoboken is a pretty dense marketplace, and a site like theirs could boost local business/entrepreneurship. One suggestion would be to create a ‘local page’ for markets where the services that are actually most in-demand are the most prominent, have specials, etc. Lots of possibilities..

I would definitely use this service. When I need to get something done for my place (random repairs, plumbing, electricity) I have to make half a dozen calls and hope/wait for a response. It would be so nice to avoid that hassle, and just cut to the chase.

This idea is dead – servicesource.com already has the market share. Factor in Angie’s List for referrals from people and I see a pretty saturated market for this.

There is always that one person that talks in behalf of their own failures. You represent this type 😈

I like the squidjob idea, services such as servicesource.com and angie’s list need a lot of improvement.

Hopefully squidjob will improve the many aspects which the other companies mentioned above haven’t been able to fulfill 😀 [quote comment=”207904″]This idea is dead – servicesource.com already has the market share. Right…because a start up without any VC capital in a niche marketpace and without a real support staff should have no problem mastering a concept that has been implemented and refined over the past 5 years. You my friend need a business 101 course.
