Hoboken Voters Mailed Wrong Ballots!

4/20/2007:

“Vote Early and Often” is an old saying in Chicago politics. Today Hoboken voters may get the same chance thanks to a snafu at the Hudson County Board of Elections. Voters in at least two wards are reporting the county has sent them the WRONG vote-by-mail absentee ballots. People in the First Ward are getting ballots with the names of Second Ward candidates on them, and Fifth Ward ballots are being sent to Second Ward voters. Candidates are scrambling to make sure their voters vote for them, and not some candidate in some other ward.

Will the county send a second ballot with the correct candidates to the voters? If so, will they do anything to make sure the voters haven’t voted twice for candidates in two different wards? Will they double check all ballots to make sure people have voted correctly? Post here if you got the wrong ballot. Updates as they become available.

Here’s some related election information:

You have to be registered to vote 52 days before the election.Call the county, they made the rules for these things, and also ask how long you have to live here before you can vote…
This is a “municipal” election. And you can request an absentee ballot through an absentee ballot application up to 7 business days before, aka May 1. Then you’ll be sent the ballot in the mail and have to send it back, following the very specific instructions — they only open those ballots the night of IF the election is closed, otherwise they’re counted later. Since last year, in NJ, you do NOT need a reason to request an absentee, they’re now a right to everyone who doesn’t feel like going to the polls.
i live in the 3rd ward…can i request an absentee candidate?!?!?!?!?

you can get an absentee ballot up until 7 days before the election, right?

also – i guess you’d check the “municipal” box on this form, or would it be “general”?

thanks
