Hoboken411 is back online again. My apologies for being off-the-air for so long. One problem after the other. Just to make the site a little more stable? Silly me!
It was a rather annoying process to do the switch. Worse than last time back at the beginning of the year.
Should you ever choose to have a beefy high-traffic site with limited resources like 411, keep in mind the following:
- Upgrading on the weekend is NOT a great idea. The high-level support staff is much less accessible.
- You pay for what you get. Having a lot of horsepower with no mechanic is frustrating beyond belief. They wouldn’t even take my money for expedited support when I offered it to them. But expect to pay more than twice what I pay for on-demand high-level technicians. One day.. one day..
- Plan ahead and document every last thing. One slip or mistake can lead to longer downtime.
- Diversify. Doing it alone is rewarding but challenging beyond belief. With no one to empathize with, it leads to greater anxiety and nerves.
With that being said, I have to say thanks again for all the readers concerned with the availability of the site, and their kind thoughts. And I’m mentally exhausted and will not do the usual week in review, or other Saturday mini-posts. At least the police scanner didn’t go off the air this weekend. First time in a year an update didn’t happen for a calendar day. Bummer.
Lastly, I’m not sure if I worked out all he traffic kinks yet, and there may still be sporadic “brownouts” until I can fine-tune and tweak the database settings that work best. Work in progress as they say.
