Girl Crazy: Pop Art Pinups & Portraits by Bob Piersanti

Music by the Lonesome Prarie Dogs and DJ Street Justice…

“Girl Crazy” is the new art show opening at Paul Vincent Studios on Sunday, February 13, 2011.

Artist Robert Piersanti mixes pop culture influences and traditional art elements in his new group of pinups and portraits. The acrylic on canvas paintings feature local models as mermaids, cowgirls, and space cadets, with added elements of rock and roll, hot rods, side shows, and burlesque. Robert Piersanti is a Jersey City artist whose paintings have shown in galleries and exhibits from New York, New Jersey, Miami, to Milan.

His work has appeared in book and album covers, television, and major national magazines including The New Yorker. His current solo show at PVS is a valentine tribute to the local models, which grace his acrylic paintings. The work starts with a photo session with the subject, sketches and rough concepts follow. Graphics, patterns, and often typography, are added elements to the compositions. The thumbnail sketch and design process is taken to a clean-penciled version on canvas. The painting process begins with a black acrylic “inking” of the penciled design. Acrylic color is applied with flat brushes to impart a smooth printed look. Finally the black areas are restored to complete the painting.

Robert Piersanti is a lifelong New Jersey artist who works and lives in his downtown Jersey City loft.

The Paul Vincent Gallery is committed to bringing high quality art and entertainment to the city of Hoboken and its surrounding areas. They strive to continue building a community of people who celebrate culture and excellence in the arts. In addition to exhibitions, the gallery hosts figure drawing sessions every Tuesday night, open jam sessions/open mics, and opens its facilty to be rented for special private events. The space is close to 2000 sq. ft. and is located at 49 Harrison Street.
