Hoboken Breakfast Nuggets: 1/25/2011
Water Main Breaks are Getting Boring
Just like a kid that insists that his dad take him to see Harry Potter for the 10th time – seeing the same movie over and over again is repetitive and boring.
The same goes for the water main breaks in the Mile Square. Hoboken411 broke the news about the 2nd & Bloomfield leak as it happened two days ago (as usual).
411 reader Jay snapped shots of what the scene looked like all day yesterday.
Snow is getting boring too!
I used to say living in the Northeast was great because the change of seasons kept the weather interesting all year round. However, as I get older – the year-long consistent (nice) weather in places like San Diego, for instance – is something that I wouldn’t have a tough time adjusting to.
Been talking about this week’s east coast storm for the past few days. Something is coming our way that’s for sure. How much, in what form and for how long remains to be seen. But there’s certainly potential for something disruptive – either treacherous snow and ice, or even damaging flooding & wind. Definitely no blizzard, that’s for sure (ho hum).
How many days left till Spring?
One person who used to comment a lot on Hoboken411 was Dave Axelrod (aka “hobodave”). After a battle with cancer, he passed away early yesterday morning.
He was a community activist who cared about Hoboken, and even contributed to stories here on 411 about restricting public speaking at city council meetings and Church Square Park.
For those who wish to pay respects, memorial services will be held this evening from 5 – 9pm at Failla Memorial Home at 5th & Willow Streets.
Below is one of the photos Axelrod contributed – back when the whole Astroturf issue at CSP annoyed the constituents in 2007:
