Hertz Corner Cars buried (again)

1/28/2011 Update:

Community Cars sadly alone after winter storm

Hoboken411 reader Brian sent some pics in of various “community cars” up at Stevens Institute after this week’s winter storm.

See original story from December after the break…

12/28/2010:

Hertz on Demand: Would garages would make better locations?

Another reason why putting the Hertz on Demand (formerly Connect by Hertz) rental cars in local parking garages instead of on the street makes sense.

Funny how this “community” of users who “share” these great eco-friendly cars – don’t get off their butts and shovel them all out!

There was a team of Hertz shovelers on Adams Street just now digging out the cars. But the car that they drove in was taking up a regular spot. At least it was on the 4 hour side.

I don’t understand the obsession with the Hertz cars. Everybody should just do Zipcar if they want to get rid of their cars.

In the world of silly city ideas, parking headaches, insider business deals and safety hazards, there are plenty of bigger scofflaws and problems than the corner cars. As of yesterday evening, the two Hertz cars on Garden at 8th were NOT parked in their (snowy) designated spots. Instead, they were parked in regular parking directly across Garden street (which Hoboken residents dug out thoroughly).

Now, I support the corner cars program… if Hertz holds up their end of the bargain. In this case, they clearly have NOT. I really don’t care if Hertz doesn’t dig the cars out… but taking up extra spots is totally not fair, and it defeats the purpose of the designated spots. BOO, Hertz! BOO!

Well, the reason why they were parked across the street from their designated spots was because the crazy landlord from Mr. Wraps (guy with the moustache who always says, “Oh yeah”) spent all day Sunday clearing all the ice off of his sidewalk, and walking across the street and dumping ALL of his ice/snow in the Corner Cars’ spots. Nice……[quote comment=”202208″]As of yesterday evening, the two Hertz cars on Garden at 8th were NOT parked in their (snowy) designated spots. Those spots were NEVER shoveled out!!!! Even if there is snow in them bad enough that you can’t park. 20 bucks says that the users that left them there didn’t call Hetrz to say that they didn’t leave them in the designated spots.

Hertz was in town digging all the cars out. Me thinks they’re second-guessing their car location choices.

Two spots visible from my kitchen window. One car is still snowed in, the other has been missing since Monday. I wonder where that car is, and if there is a shovel in the trunk for the renter to clear the dedicated space when they return the car?[quote comment=”201350″]Hertz was in town digging all the cars out.
