Hoboken High School Football Concerns?

12/6/2010:

Hoboken parent starts blog about HHS Athletics

One Hoboken parent was so concerned about the alleged “unprofessional” conditions taking place within the Hoboken High School Football program, that they started a blog about it: shannonresignhobokenfootball.blogspot.com

Claims coaches acting in unprofessional manner

The parent claims to have witnessed the coaches of the Varsity football team treat players with less than appealing conduct, using demeaning language and “other vile words” that they chose not to even mention. They also feel that the manner in which the coaches are running the team is not appropriate, especially to “impressionable teenagers,” and thinks that the “abuse” should come to an end.

Recently, this parent indicated to Hoboken411, that the NJ State Interscholastic Athletic Association was recently on site here in Hoboken – and pulled several students out of class to be interviewed about the alleged verbal and physical abuse they’re claiming the coaches were involved in. Additionally, they believed that some of the players might have been specifically “coached” in what to say to these State Athletic Officials.

It should be noted, however, that the blog supposedly started by this Hoboken Parent – just contains mostly JibJab videos, and one post with some references to the alleged irate behavior in the Redwings playoff loss to New Providence in November.

If you’re a parent or someone close to the school athletics programs – have you heard the same thing?

Giant’s coach Parsll could be coarse and tough, even with his mouth….Vince Lombardi spoke soft but was tough (even with academics). Remember, we are training them to compete in a world that is not fair at times. It is important for them to have discipline and have consequences for not giving it their all. Football makes one grow…grow…In 2007, in the 2-16 Battalion (Second Battalion, Sixteenth Infantry Regiment of the Fourth Infantry Brigade Combat Team, First Infantry Division) the average age of the solderiers in this Battalion was 19, yes, 19 years of age. The Lt. Co. Commander was a Ranger’, dedicated West Point Graduate. In fact, one of the best books written about ‘war’ is THE GOOD SOLDIERS, BY dAVID fINKEL, Winner of the Pulitze Prize.

Never had a coach yell at me. Too bad.

Back in cadets, I was yelled and cursed at by a staff sergeant. I always tried not to laugh. And I was always unsuccessful at it. I found drills including “Saddam Hussein is a son-of-a-bitch” funny…

I also distinctly remember a five-foot, one-inch tall supervisor in (public) elementary school who, with his loud mouth, kept all of us students in check like the lil’ b*tches we were for years.

Something about “move your ass” and “shut up” that’s so motivating…

Have to agree with dirtyjerz. I too went to Catholic high school and played sports. Our coach was very articulate, one of the most well-spoken teachers at the school in fact. Didn’t stop him from letting us know definitively when we screwed up. Sometimes you need a fire under your butt.

The last thing anyone should be complaining about is how out of control a coach is @ HHS. Take a look @ the majority of students they are savages……..the coach is just the animal trainer.

Wow we agree….the parents start a blog about how bad the coach is…absurd…why not starting a blog about how the HS is one step away from a penal colony![quote comment=”200704″]The last thing anyone should be complaining about is how out of control a coach is @ HHS. In the 50’s, you got a smack from the head coach’s ‘meathook’ hand and the parents did not complain. In this current situation, wait until the investigation report is completed and see the conclusion. How many parents are complaining about so called vebal abuse? One has to read between the lines here!
