6/18/2007 Update:
Michelangela, the store many of you know and love is open again and under new ownership. Stephanie Kaliades, the new owner, has given the Hoboken shop a facelift. A previous employee of the former owner, Stephanie bought the store two months ago. “I knew how much everyone loved the store, and I didn’t want to change what people kept coming back for.”
The store still carries vintage and antique furniture, much of which Stephanie paints herself. It also remains a great gift and home decor stop. The store is filled with frames, candles, clocks, lamps, dried flowers and many other distinctive items. There is an adorable collection of baby clothes and accessories as well as the French and Italian soaps and lotions they carried before. What has changed? The walls have been painted a more rustic green, very different from the light pink walls from before. “I think it gives the store a more homey feel,” said Stephanie, “I want people to walk in and say ‘I want my house to look like this!” The ceiling has been hand painted in gold detail, which creates a warm glow for the entire store.
The biggest change however is the new line of jewelry that Michelangela now carries. You may have already seen the sign in the window, “Ambrosia and Nectar Jewelry.” The new owner created this jewelry line a few years ago. Now she makes all the pieces herself, right on the premises. Inspired by Greek and Roman Mythology, Ambrosia and Nectar Jewelry uses a unique variety of materials such as semi-precious gemstones, freshwater pearls, Swarovski crystals, feathers, corals, seashells, and precious metals. The moderately priced pieces start at just $20 for earrings and $50 for necklaces. She also does custom orders for wedding parties and other events.
So next time you’re downtown make sure to stop by. They are constantly getting in new things so you’re sure to find something you’ll enjoy.

This is a test of a non-functioning account. Please ignore if it actually posts.

Does anyone know if they kept on their employees? They were so incredibly nice.

Wailea, thanks for the heads up. I was really bummed to hear it was closing. I simply adored this store! It’s been there for the longest. It’s a shame great places have to close their doors. I hope it works out for the new owner, those lease terms are just a bit steep..

Re 19. MidnightRacer: Hmmm…I suspect you’re a Liberty agent? Nice to have the comps, (& clever marketing for any 411 reader looking for commercial space), but they’re all from a single agency’s listings. Surely relevant, but better to see what’s out on Craig’s List or Realtor. com, etc., for true comparison.

this store is nothing short of charming! the new jewelry that they sell (ambrosia & nectar) is absolutely exquisite and so unique - it makes a statement (& an outfit) without trying. definitely worth visiting!

Wow, this shop is like the Nutcracker ballet. So full of Christmas excitement and jammed with something for everyone: kids, your Mom, your sister. I’m glad this little gem is still going strong.

I love this store. Its super cute and has original stuff in every few days. I live next door to it and its sad to say I rarely ever see people in there. I hope they don’t get boxed out of town because I have found some really gifts there, albeit a bit pricey.
