Inconsiderate Double Parkers

9/23/2010:

It may only get worse!

Parking in the city of Hoboken has been a nightmare for a long time. And it only seems to be getting worse. Some quick thoughts…

  • Regardless of what the next census numbers say, it’s estimated that between 10,000 – 15,000 new residents have moved into the cramped Mile Square in the past 10 years. All competing for the same street spots.
  • The Hertz on Demand Connect cars have taken 50 of those spots away – and in NO WAY will “750 cars be taken off the streets.” Not gonna happen.
  • In the photo below, the poor girl was blocked in for 30 minutes waiting for an officer to respond. Since the cops were on higher-priority calls, this non-threatening incident had to wait. What will be the case when less patrolmen are on duty?

I understand the reason why most people double park – however, if you are planning on keeping your car parked that way in excess of 5 minutes – you should try not blocking someone in……it makes no sense to me why people block other cars. 9 times out of 10 you can park on a corner which wouldnt block someone – and if youre going somewhere on Washington – just pull off to a side street and park on a corner there.

there is no need to block someones car for 30 min – you deserve to get towed.

UGH, double parkers. It’s okay for a few minutes, like for dropping off groceries but other than that there’ no reason. Atleast leave a note to which house you’re in and someone can ring the bell so you can move. That would be alot cheaper than paying a towing fee.

I’ve called the cops on multiple occasions when I’ve been blocked in. They’ve never come, so I don’t see how it could get any worse.

How are all the windows intact on that Accord? And all the tires still have air? Amazing.
