Mayors car parked illegally 7th & Monroe

8/24/2010:

Zimmers city car violates Hoboken ordinances

Coming back from the 9th Street Light Rail station last night around midnight, I spotted this silver Chevy Malibu LS with NJ License Plate LCT-55T parked illegally in the yellow over at 7th and Monroe Streets.

Normally par for the course in Hoboken, but this particular car belongs to the office of the Mayor (currently Dawn Zimmer) and is now entered into the City Offender Zone category here on Hoboken411. It was previously an HPD detectives car before being re-assigned to Zimmer.

  • What are official city cars doing parked on residential streets? Any why illegally?
  • Why so late at night? (Hood was warm)
  • When the battery dies because the lights were left on – does the taxpayer foot the bill for the tow-truck to come?
  • Do you think using official tax-payer funded city vehicles for personal use is right?

Off the wall? Not at all. Dawn Zimmer has made a point to deflect from Hoboken’s top issues by focusing on lesser tier issues such as biking instead of driving and using city-wide car sharing programs instead of individually owned cars. On those two criteria alone, Zimmer has shown herself to be a hypocrite. But it makes me and others ask a whole slew of other questions: ~Why is the Mayoral city car parked illegally? She has free municipal parking at a local garage. ~Why is this car being used by Alicea to chauffer Zimmer around? The self-proclaimed cyclist needs a personal driver in this tiny town? ~Why isn’t Zimmer using the Hertz car share program that she advocates for on a daily basis? ~Why hasn’t Zimmer given up her personal cars and turned in her parking permits? Why hasn’t the Zimmer council majority given up their cars even though they keep pushing the Hertz program on everyone else? When D Zimmer was a council person I did see her bike riding. She had a helmet on and so did her children but alas, she was riding on the sidewalk.[quote comment=”196765″]Off the wall? Not at all. Generally a big fan of this site, but I don’t understand this post. What makes this parking spot illegal? Yes, the curb is painted yellow, but that’s because the Hoboken Catholic Academy is on that street, and the 2 parking signs – that don’t appear in your photos – indicate that parking isn’t allowed on school days from 8 am to 3 pm. The sign also says that parking IS permitted at other times if you have a residential permit, and up to 4 hours if you don’t have a permit. So … why is this illegal?

I guess if there were an emergency a police office should be dispatched to her home to pick her up and drive her to the office. That makes fiscal sense. If she were observed driving her family in the official car, it would be a different story.[quote comment=”196737″]Generally a big fan of this site, but I don’t understand this post. didnt the city promote walking/biking as the solution to the parking issue?

i guess dawn doesnt follow her own advice….oh wait, she follows the advice of the people how pull the strings behind her…..

and yes, despite the ‘severity’ of the issue, we should hold our elected representatives to a higher standard. no one forced them to run for office. if you are going to run on a platform of openness, transparency and all things good, it needs to show in all your actions.

no backroom deals, closed room discussion. didnt the administration frown upon that before they got into office.

if only there was a way to impeach these clowns…

I tend to look at the big picture, so the everyday actions of these half-witted Hoboken politicians historically didn’t rouse me too much. I have been reading this site for some years now, though, and have seen the everyday stupidities of our government exposed. One thing I’ve come to understand is that all these indecencies and wrongs, in totality, do become one very big hard-to-ignore picture. When I get my kids out of this town sometime to a place where they have a yard and some trees, I am going to take a lesson learned by reading Hoboken411. It’s important to keep your eyes open and pay attention to the little abuses. They do add up, and they do make a town a much less desirable place to call home.
