East LA

March
3/31/2007:
Reader Bskills4 sent this observation in yesterday. Did anyone else notice the same thing?
Hey, in case any of your readers are interested.. East La got rid of their happy hour and the place is dark!!
2/20/2007:
So word on the street is confidently indicating that East LA is being sold. Apparently the business wasn’t doing so well, and it was time to jump ship. Some readers are speculating that the shorter-than-usual bar hours might have had something to do with it.
New owners are reported to be The Farside.
No word at this time whether the venue, name or menu will change. No firm date as to when the business will change hands.
I just realized 411 never reviewed this place! Should I be happy?

We’re talking about what’s NEXT to East LA. Not East LA. Where is 411 on this one?

There was a nathan’s hot dog place b/t 5th and 6th on wash st. but didnt last long. limited client base … not many chicks going for a chili dog w/ cheese. was expensive too. east la is a joke. the only reason that they havent gotten any health violations recently is b/c roberts is mayor. avoid it like the plague. however, it was packed on st pats!

Maybe he doesn’t know? I do have an idea though, you could go ask them yourself and fill everyone else in ?? Honestly, I don’t think you people understand, he’s a one man show over there - he can’t be everywhere all the friggin’ time!

Biffy,
I am not sure. It is my friend’s little brother’s place and last time we spoke they had hoped to be open by Hoboken St. Pat’s. Obviously that didn’t happen. I will try and find out.
PS I’m sure this is on 411’s radar, he just hasn’t been inside for pictures

Try the train station for a good grilled dog. Biggies has them too, but more complicated.

This post does not tell me anything about Papaya Grill — I need to know when it opens. 411 needs to stop hovering over his fax machine JOing to Beth Mason’s Press Releases and Get down to 5th and Washington to get the 411.
1- when does it open
2- what will the place actually be serving
3- will there or wont there be fountain cherry coke??????

I have been a long time customer of East La.the staff makes that place. Without them east la would suck.who ever took over east la sucks they took away happy hour and it is always dark in there.I’ve tried to talk to a manager about happy hour but they never seem to be around!!! they are lucky they have such a great staff because people would stop coming there.

That fucking joint should be on Gorden Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares! I went there a few times and everytime it got worse!!!!
I got a glass with lipstick on it once, there were more flys floating around the in a feed the children commercial, the food sucked, and the place smelled like a dirty mens rooms. To top it all off, my buddy was on the bowl for a almost a week with a leaky leather cheerio after his meal.

My first visit to ELA was in 1992. Pretty sure it hasn’t been updated since. Not so sure it’s been cleaned much either.
The idea behind the food is that after a “nukular” margarita or two diners won’t notice the food.

Does Dave Roberts still own this place? If so, would a Hoboken inspector fail the place if there were any problems? I get very suspicious of politician-owned businesses, and would not put anything from such a place in my mouth unless I were sure that everyone involved in its safety was on the up-and-up.

This is idiotic. The margaritas at heppy hour were the ONLY reason to go there. The food sucks.

This place is horrible!!! I ate it last week and had to wear a MAN-PON for a week. For those of you who don’t know what that is…it’s not fun at all!!!!
