21st Century Laundromats?

3/8/2010:

Any card operated laundromats in Hoboken?

A couple of the laundromats I use still employ the archaic coin-operated washers and dryers – and wish they had some kind of “EZ-PASS” style swiping mechanism, or credit card based payment method.

Apparently I’m not the only one, as Hoboken411 reader Sandra asks the same thing…

“Do you know of Laundromats that are card operated in Hoboken? I used to live in Archstone and they had that feature, now I’m 10 blocks away and it’s not practical to cart my clothes over there. I hate the inconvenience of quarters. Any other buildings in Midtown Hoboken have this? Or another laundromat?”

When I lived in Lower Manhattan every building had the Hercules card wash and dry machines. The machines are way better and more efficient. The coin machines fault too easily, like a pool table at a bar in town, they are always getting jammed. Many of the new Hercules machines are so technologically advanced that HQ’s can identify the problem from 1000 miles away, just like zip car can from Nova Scotia on any car in their fleet, pretty cool stuff huh?

Check out Freddie’s Loft Laundromat (6th and Monroe). All of their machines have card readers.

Scotty – maybe to ensure you have ample TV watching time you can just drop off your stuff and pick it up the next day – many places offer this now. If carrying a roll of quarters is difficult, challenging or too heavy, I can only imagine how the rest of your day is spent. Please hold the mayo on my sandwich – thanks…

Chico, I can assume you miss the tokens on the parkway, and run an all-cash business?

Once they raised the prices when energy costs went up (and never lowered them when they went back down) pumping 20 bucks worth of quarters for your laundry gets annoying.
