Food poisoning outbreak downtown?

Food poisoning Hoboken NJ downtown bars restaurants

Did you get sick in Hoboken this past weekend too?

Hoboken411 reader Kevin is suspecting that one of the downtown bar/restaurants himself and many other of his “friends” got sick this past weekend. If you also got some form of food poisoning, please share your experiences in the comments.

“Obviously I am using the term “epidemic” somewhat loosely here, however, about 25 of my friends have been sick yesterday and today with flu/bad food poisoning type symptoms. The majority of the people were at (one downtown bar) on Sunday, some Saturday, while some people were at (another bar a block away). One of my friends went to the doctor this morning and the receptionist had said she heard on the news that they were talking about a food poisoning epidemic at (the first bar). However, I have not been able to find any news to confirm this report.

Have you heard anything about this? It seems pretty bad, and if I know 25 people myself the actual number of people who got sick must be very high.”

The Norovirus has hit the UK hard over the past few weeks. Estimated 500,000 people have been affected and numbers are expected to rise.

We have a quite a few Brits living here in town, perhaps one of them brought it back with them from their break over the holidays and spread it here?

Ever thrown up so viciously that there was nothing– absolutely nothing left in your stomach– and you pretty much threw up air?

Isn’t that a weird feeling?

Once, a long time ago when things were rough for me, I pretty much gave up on life and made myself sick from a bottle. A group of strangers watched me in the alley and did nothing to help. They just stood there with their lights and poles around some guy who thought he was someone special. They even had the gaul to grab a video camera and record me in one of the worst moments of my sad life…

Aw, that’s just nasty!

(My favorite puking scenes are from Family Guy.)

Yes. The dry heave. It is awful, isn’t it?

There is that moment when you involuntarily push with all your might, and you are just a passenger to the event. You watch, waiting to see if something will exit and hit the surface of the water in the bowl and hope it is not something that looks important to the workings of your innards.

Yes. That was me on Christmas Eve.

Keep hydrated. If you cannot keep fluids down, get to the doctor/hospital and get an IV. If your kid is throwing up and cannot keep fluids down, call your pediatrician immediately.

I was rocked with a stomach virus during Christmas. It sure does feel like food poisoning, but it usually ends up being a virus.

This has been going around all winter. It probably has nothing to do with any particular establishment, but rather whomever you were there with.

“The New York City Department of Health has completed the testing of samples taken during the recent occurrence of gastrointestinal illness among some of our colleagues. Norovirus was the likely cause of the recent illness.”
