Grimaldi’s Pizza – Hoboken, NJ – 411 Washington St.

Hoboken411 reader Cheetoh sent in this pic of the progress of the new Grimaldi’s Pizza location at 411 Washington Street!

Grimaldi’s to open Italian Restaurant

Word on the street is that the owners of Grimaldi’s Pizza (2nd & Clinton) have taken over this space, and are quickly renovating into a brand new Italian Restaurant.

What next at the Avenue Bar Bistro Hoboken NJ 4

What businesses survive in Hoboken?

Off the top of my head, I can think of a few, like:

 • Inviting and non-pretentious
 • Bright and accessible
 • Offering good values, or if you can’t do that…
 • Offering 5-star quality and unforgettable positive experiences
 • A definitive and unique brand identity
 • Friendly and customer service oriented
 • Perhaps your own cable TV show? (regardless of above qualifications)

I’m not 100% certain what caused Avenue Bistro & Bar to close it’s doors at 411 Washington St. The owners seemed friendly, the bar was kind of comfortable, although I never had the chance to try the food. One thing that turned me off was the color scheme. Maybe to visit a couple times, but nothing was “calling me back” there.

What would work in this location? Yet another bar/grill? Or like a Hibachi Grill (i.e., Benihana’s) one Hoboken411 commenter mentioned yesterday on the 222 Washington St. thread.

I want to follow up on my review of a couple of weeks ago. My wife and I went back to Grimaldi’s on Washington Street tonight and everything was perfect. We were seated immediately, our order was taken quickly by a friendly waitress, the food was perfect, the wine delicious and there were no problems at all. So in case you’re still checking this page winesnob, this is to let you know I don’t only complain, I also post my opinion when something is great too. Maybe they did just have a bad night last time or maybe they saw this thread and realized they needed to make some changes, but whatever it was, it was a totally different experience tonight.

Maybe the line will extend toward the Cake Boss line, and people can pick which place to go into based on which line goes faster…

I had a bad experience here (Washington Street location) that would make me think twice about going back on a crowded Saturday night. The place was packed, which we expected, but absolutely no one from the restaurant came up front to take names or tell people how long the wait would be. We stood there for about 20 minutes and a couple of times I asked a waitress, who said that someone would be with us soon. No one ever came. Meanwhile the line was getting longer and even though people inside were finishing their meals and leaving no one cleaned up their tables. One guy on the line got so pissed off he said “I’m going to clean it myself” and he went to one of the tables and took the plates and glasses and put them on the bar, and STILL they didn’t seat anyone there. I’ve been here twice before but on a weeknight and earlier, and this makes me think that this place isn’t equipped to handle a busy weekend dinner crowd. If they want to build a loyal customer following they really should pay attention and try not being rude. The food is great once you get in, but they need to have someone stationed up front to deal with people waiting, not just keep them guessing. By the way we never had this problem at the Clinton Street location, which is just as good. I guess we’ll just keep going to that one.

Snob, in calling Freewheelin a loser, and suggesting that he “needs a life”, you’re clearly taking his criticism personally, Snob. This suggest to me – and most people with brain stems – that you either work for the restaurant, and/or you have friends and/or relatives who work there.
maybe they were having a bad night. what kind of loser goes on line to tell the world about a one off bad experience…freewheelin you need to get a life!
Actually I have a very good and fulfilling life, winesnob, but if it makes you feel less inadequate or more superior to think that I don’t because I posted a critique of a restaurant, then by all means feel free. Doesn’t much matter t me.
i neither work there or know people who work there…..keep up the good investigative journalism Tomada

Isn’t that the point of having internet reviews? Are you saying there should only be positive reviews online?
maybe they were having a bad night. what kind of loser goes on line to tell the world about a one off bad experience…freewheelin you need to get a life!

Thank you, homeworld. Obviously winesnob has never seen sites like Amazon either. Or any of a million others where people post both positive and negative reviews. Yes, it’s possible this place was having a bad night, and I will go back there again because the food is excellent. I just won’t go back on a Saturday night if there’s any kind of line.

The point of any negative review is to alert other potential customers about what they might expect. As I said in my post, I had been there twice before and there were no problems, but a restaurant in crowded Hoboken needs to know how to deal with a growing line of customers on a Saturday night if they want to build a loyal clientele. Ignoring them and being rude when they ask a simple question like how long the wait is is not the way to do that. There are so many other dining options just within a few blocks that no one is going to put up with that.
Isn’t that the point of having internet reviews? Winesnob, I guess you’ve never seen sites like Yelp then? And I guess you’ve never read any of the thousands of comments here on H411 where people write to complain about one thing or another?
