Flooding (we were lucky this time)

Update 3 (6/26): We were lucky this time and the moisture surged inland.

Update 2 (6/25): Take a look at the forecast for the rest of the week at the bottom. I’ve never seen anything like it. 40-50% chance of showers each and every day until kingdom come. Odd.

Update: Even more rain into next week. See below! Call Noah!

Get your boots onHere’s a free urban planning study for Hoboken officials in favor of the southwest development project.

This weekend, we’re expecting a deluge of rain up until at least Sunday evening. Our drainage system already sucks, so I figure it’s going to be pretty bad.

What do you think?

Here’s an excerpt from the National Weather Service:

THE SLOW MOVING FRONTAL SYSTEM WILL MOVE INTO THE REGION THIS
EVENING. THE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS WILL
BECOME INCREASINGLY WIDESPREAD ACROSS THE REGION AS THE EVENING
AND OVERNIGHT PROGRESSES AS THE FRONT STALLS OUT AND A LOW
PRESSURE DISTURBANCE DEVELOPS ALONG IT. THIS SITUATION IS NOT
LIKELY TO CHANGE UNTIL LATE SUNDAY. AS A RESULT…WE EXPECT TO
SEE A EVENT WITH RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF BETWEEN 3 AND 5 INCHES BY
SUNDAY EVENING. LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS ARE POSSIBLE.

THIS MUCH RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLOODING OF FLOOD PRONE URBAN AND
POOR DRAINAGE AREAS (I.E., HOBOKEN)

More stuff coming. Don’t you like getting wet?

FYI, the weather “expert” at accuweather said: “it’s a tricky forecast next week on who gets heavy rain and who does not“. In other words, we may not get flooded. What a cop out.

Unfortunately, areas that are expected to be hit hard by rain this weekend may continue to get soaked into early next week. As the jet stream dives into the Midwest over the next several days, it will cause steering winds which will turn southerly along the Eastern Seaboard. This will open up an avenue for tropical moisture to head north. So more rain seems likely across the Northeast and mid-Atlantic states from Monday into Wednesday and there is the potential for some heavy rain.

Geek alert set to: High.

sure-the Hoboken Fire Dept. I’m sure that little boat will get out there and be of some real use. It’s a shame it didn’t do much in the river where it was needed recently. maybe better results on the streets. 😕

You know this should have been a big issue during the last election but it wasn’t. Maybe instead of building up Hoboken we should be looking downward and upgrading the drainage system.
