What a classy ride!

Hoboken411 reader hansbrix sent in this cool photo of what the “Submariner” now known as the PATH train looked like over 100 years ago.

You can see even more amazing detail by clicking on the photo for a much larger version! Too bad the trains aren’t as empty these days…

Wow. It’s hard to believe that only 100 years ago they could put upholstery in a public space without it being trashed the first day, and that not that long ago there wasn’t an advertisement on every square inch of public accommodations. Those light bulbs probably wouldn’t last 24 hours now either. “sigh”

I swear those cars were around in the late 50’s early 60’s when the trains were hudson manhattan tubes.

Or even into the 1980’s those old Erie Lackawanna trains that ran out of Hoboken, with the rattan (wicker) seats and the “toilet” that was just a hole in the floor in basically a phone booth. The sign in the bathroom said “Please Do Not Use Toilet In Station”.

dont forget we had muggers and killers in those days as well.even worse..cops were killed..no one was safe..Imagine a civil libertys union in them days?
