Charity: Water in Hoboken!
A few weeks ago I published a great post about ways you can donate to charity or volunteer in and around Hoboken.
Well, our friends at the Church @ Hoboken have come up with a great way to give up superficial things you really don’t need during the holidays – and help those are really suffering around the world.
Take a look at this following video (it really is great!) – and read more below!
Hoboken: Water, instead of the usual Xmas gifts
“The organization the church is working with, charitywater.org, deals with building wells in third-world countries and is known for extremely low overhead (all org/staff costs come from private donors and funds, so 100% of donations through campaigns such as this one end up going directly overseas to construction initiatives). The campaign setup by the church is named “Hoboken Water” and will be running until a week or two into January.
The draw is to for participants to request donations in their name from friends and relatives instead of the usual Christmas gifts, which is actually how charitywater.org started a few years back (the founder started throwing donation parties in lieu of birthday parties for himself). Things are off to a steady start, but I would expect the majority of donations to come in closer-to, or after, Christmas. I personally have a few relatives way outside Hoboken, that are going to be giving checks later this month, and imagine a number of others aware of the campaign do as well.
