Giving Thanks – 2009
Each Thanksgiving around this time, I like to sit down for a minute and think about things in the past year that I can be thankful for. Without further adieu…
Thank You, Continued Growth!
Despite social networking sites like Facebook & Twitter vying for the attention of netizens – Hoboken411 still continues to grow! No matter whether there’s a political event, plane crash or fire devastation, the incredible streak of growth in unique visitors and pageviews month after month is something to be thankful for. The tens of thousands of pageviews per day is proof positive that dedication to the craft as well as honest passion for the Mile Square yields results. Over 50 million pageviews and several servers later – I’m always grateful for the countless individuals that appreciate my contribution to Hoboken.
Some quick stats: Registered 411 readers: 22,501 – Comments made: nearly 180,000!
October 2009: Visits: 750,603 / Pageviews: 2,379,896 – (over 75,000 pageviews a day!)
(Started using Sitemeter in June 2009, after experimenting with many other analytics packages)
Less hate = more readers.
Maintaining civility on a massive community site is no easy task, especially considering the traffic. Without getting into too much detail about specifics, discourse between commenters has improved immensely this year. Many of the regular readers of 411 understand what I’m talking about. (And thanks to the happy readers who sent me letters appreciating the improvements!!)
I’m also happy NOT to be politically affiliated with any single person, group, party or directive. Hoboken411 tells it like I see it. You certainly may not agree with all of the opinions (and facts) published on this site, and frankly that doesn’t concern me. What allows me to sleep at night are the facts – and that I can still think independently. A big hat tip to the man above for giving me the strength to prevent being controlled by others. Puppets give me the creeps anyway!
Shining the light: It’s quite a social responsibility to be the lone site about Hoboken that doesn’t get sucked into the fray, the hob-nobbing, and the cronyism. No matter who’s in office, Hoboken411 will continue to be the community watch dog that residents have relied on for the past four years!
And much more…
More to life than politics. While political banter is the sole reason some folks feel the need to live, Hoboken411 happily plugs along covering all things Hoboken, creating original content, and engaging new features – and has done so consistently since 2006. I’m thankful for all the people that have reached out to me to help spread the word about their product, event, business or ideas.
Positive results for local businesses. The countless emails and personal conversations I’ve had with local business entities who have been appreciative for the coverage on 411 – and the boost in sales they’ve received is gratifying. I try my best to help all those that need or deserve it!
Fun, Freedom, Happiness & Community!
I couldn’t dream of a better job than creating and running Hoboken411. Each day I enjoy the streets of Hoboken, I meet so many people who have shared their appreciation for the site – sometimes even pulling over their cars to thank me for something I’ve done. Each time it renews my passion and motivates me to continue!
Creative Freedom. With nearly 10,000 articles posted on the site, some folks think it’s easy as pecking a 140-character tweet out, sending an email, or something along those lines. Not the case! Quite a bit of effort is put into maintaining the daily updates. However, since I have no editorial supervision or boundaries – most of what you see here is “train of thought,” both verbally and visually. And by allowing my ideas and concepts to flow without hindrance, it gives me great satisfaction to sometimes look back and remember some of the more fun posts I’ve published. Yeah, even I’m allowed a pat on the back from time to time!
Lastly – I want to thank everyone that has read and contributed to the best community site in the world – especially the hundreds of people that email me week after week with tips, kudos and suggestions.
Have a great Thanksgiving to all!
