Car hits motorcycle

Today, at approximately 4:15pm a driver of a late model Honda Subaru (thanks) crashed into a motocycle driver on 1st and Washington.

Immediate witness accounts indicate that the driver was on her cell phone and had her vehicle filled with crap and her field of vision was poor. Talk about “fault”.

We’ll see what happens. More details to follow.

Wow, what a scene. I know this thread is old, but first time I’ve seen it. 2003 Subaru Legacy – versus – 2003 Yamaha R1 Looks like the car, a 2003 Subaru Legacy, made an illegal left turn from Washington St onto 1st Street in totally the wrong direction (see DO NOT ENTER sign in photo #1) while on a cell phone in a head high packed car, and caused the motorcycle to strike as a low side impact with rear power tire spining bike 150º clock. This catapulted the rider in a handspring move crashing feet into windshield. Impact had to be decent as it spread bike debris from broken front and left fairing about 10 feet towards sidewalk. Rider potentially has injuries to wrists, rib cage, lungs, spine. My guess is that she, driver of car, just moved to Hoboken, given the preceding details of turning the wrong direction into a one way street, in a car packed head high, while talking on a cell phone. I’m a rider, but I take what I do very seriously. You can ride safely and create extra reaction time by using lane thirds strategy while approaching intersections. ALWAYS assume cars, known as “cages”, are going to do something stupid. So, as you approach intersections, using the thirds, stray to the right third (and scan if anyone is openning a parked car door) to give yourself an extra half second (from the extra 3 feet) to react if car pulls in front… Read more »

I was at the accident as well and I agree with Atlanta, took at least 20 minutes for any EMS with equipment to arrive. The whole situation was WEIRD, the guy laying on top the hood belly down, movin his neck back and forth, cops guiding traffic in pedestrian clothing. Couldn’t tell what was what.. The guy was def wearing that crazy helmet.. Oh, and ironically the cop car comes around the corner just as the EMS vehicle arrives.. I heard from a cop once, that they wait until EMS arrives so they don’t have to get involved..

WhewWhewWhew, what a jerk, if it were some pedestrian who was hit would it be the same situation? Injury wise of course, but im sure your views of the accident would change.

Don’t be so ignorant and have some respect for the people on motorcycles, dont have to agree with it just respect it.

“What a faker. I am sure the firm of “Dewey, Cheatem, and Howe” is already on the case. Look for this guy to get a 6 figure settlement for nothing and jack our insurance rates up. If you choose to sit on top of an engine with no protection then it is your own fault for riding a motorcycle. With people crossing the street, stop signs, lights, idiots on cell phones, dogs off leases, etc. why would you drive a motorcycle around a town like Hoboken anyway?”

I hate people like you who talk about things they kno nothing about… How the hell you know by looking at picture that he isnt hurt. Also If you cant afford your insurance dont drive use the bus…

You’re an idiot. Regardless wether he’s a wearing a protection or not, he wasn’t speeding on local streets. What next? You’re gonna check if he’s wearing his diapers? WTF? The chick who hit him was on the cell phone, EMT came 20 minutes – late, he’s immobilized to check if he has internal injuries – standard EMT procedures. You need to realize who is REALLY at fault here and stop blaming bikers who have as much rights being on the streets of Hoboken, as any stupid cagers who can’t drive. Like England, they need to start putting out more laws that protects bikers – since there’s gonna be more every years, so get used to it.
