Parking sticker AND a boot!

11/14/2009:
A Hoboken411 reader spots a car with a Hoboken Parking Sticker – booted. What a drag!
What a pain!
“As I’m walking down grand st I saw a black truck w a boot on it. I said to myself “this sucks” some people visit and don’t know the rules. The sticker on window cites no decal no permit. Then I look in back window and whaddya know a hoboken valid decal for parking? Someone didn’t bother to look through the slight tint and now this car has been wrongly booted. Seems as though the town is just full of bad apple parking authorities. The officers Identification number is 0313. I’ve attached some pictures so the public can be aware of the lousy job the park auth does and how it reflects our community.”
411 Note: While I suspected it’s possible that this “wrongfully booted” SUV might be an expired or invalid sticker, the reader believes the HPU employee should have noted that on the seizure notice (not “no decal”) – leading us to conclude it was a genuine screw-up on the part of the city.

A hoboken parking authority SUV almost ran into my car one day. She was parked outside of the city hall and pulled out without even looking. She didn’t even apologize.
When these guys are not handing out tickets like halloween candy they are busy driving recklessly.
The license plate btw is MG48062.

This could be as simple as being caught by the camera truck. Camera truck shoots the plates.
I do see that it says no decal but it could be as simple as the computer spitting back they dont have a valid permit.
that ticket has the vin number and all. I am sure they ran the plates before booting to make sure there is no permit with that plate.

Phone: the “Seizure Notice” says “No Permit – No Decal.”
If this was indeed an expired notice, the HPU employee should have noted that to avoid mis-communication. Then again – this is Hoboken.
RFID: stands for “Really Friggin Inaccurate Determinations?”

Expired decal does not get a boot, it gets a notice to cure and a ticket. Then again do it again it may be a different story. The ordinance book for decals is very specific. If it is the wrong car it will say decal does not match vehicle, f expired it says expired, no permit mean no permit visible likewise for decal.

P
Called it in, was told if there is a tint and officer cant see the decal clearly then it is booted, if the person feels it is in error they must pay the $150 1st then go to court Monday to dispute it to get a refund. People work and can not go to court, not cool to boot and know someone might not challenge it since they will miss work. Sucks because the park police give the actual police a bad name. So you have to pay 150 and lose a day or just pay it because of a tint which in these pics i dont really see a tint, if a camera can see so can the naked eye

They use RFID sensors to pick up the stickers – not cameras.

An expired decal counts as “no decal” for booting and ticketing purposes.

I know from my friend’s experience. They booted, ticketed, and towed his car for having an expired decal. (After 48 hours of being booted it gets towed)

Well, that’s just plain DUMB. Because physically – the sticker is there. How complex is the English language that they can’t write “expired decal?” This eliminates any doubt.
Not sure I believe this. Maybe the car owner can come forward and explain.

did you ever think the sticker is supposed to be in a designated spot and that the town shouldn’t have to search around a vehicle with tinted windows to try and find it?

The stickers are RFID – just like EZpass – all they need to do is drive around or use the handheld scanners. One HPU employee told me himself that they’re not accurate and can’t pick up 100% of the decals.
Correct me if I’m wrong – but you may not even have to go to court to get the ticket dismissed (for lack of decal) – I think you just need to go to the HPU office and they’ll void it if you can prove you’ve paid for the year.
Anyone?

Happened to me too. I put the decal/sticker (got it Jan 09)right where they told me to – the bottom left corner of the back windshield. Thing is it’s factory (so not very dark) tinted. So if one bothered to looked or scanned where they were supposed to it would’ve been right there. Got a ticket, a boot ($150 or so), and a tow ($100 or so). Went to court to protest it and was one of the last ones to go in front of the judge. They told me they would refund the ticket. I asked for a refund for the rest and they said I had to go back to trial (wasn’t about to do that) or take some papers to Parking Authority and they might refund it to me. Stupid court lady gave me the wrong papers so Parking Authority and other people gave me the run around and finally I gave up. I was out almost 300 and atleast 4-5 hours cuz of these idiots. Put your sticker in the front right bottom windshield even though the idiots tell you to put it elsewhere. Not sure why I assumed these people would get off their fat bums and have a close look at something or do something correctly.

Had this happen to me – bought new car, just placed decal from old car in new car – and hence the ticket/boot (car and license plate did not match what was on file). I got to it before tow, so easy enough fix. Frustrating for the residents who are legit, but I am sure for every situation like mine, they come across someone who is non-res trying to beat the system.

As have multiple people I know. In fact, the notice that the City sends you states that you will be booted if you don’t renew your decal.

Wife’s car got booted because the decal was on the side window. It was current. We had to pay, and then wait through six months of court date reschedules to finally get a refund.
Those guys can boot whomever they want.
