Hoboken Photo of the Day – 10/29/2009
I doubt this bothers most people, but I did receive a couple emails from area residents who are pissed that 14th Street is still closed in front of the Clearview Cinemas movie theater that opened recently. One resident said “Why does that business get to dictate my travel direction? I pay taxes in Hoboken as well!”
PS – if you have images collecting dust on your camera or hard drive – send them in for eventual inclusion on Hoboken411! Please state how you’d like to be credited in your email, and a description – if desired!!

Holy Crap!!! Always something to complain about. It’s closed for pedestrian safety, in the event of lines and such at the theather. 14th St is a county road and the county was the one that granted the permission for the street to be closed. WAHHHHH, WAHHHHHH, WAHHHHHHHHH.

Shouldn’t pedestrians stand on the sidewalk?

These kinds of photos appear more frequently on this site. I’m beginning to count down the years, months, weeks until we get around town in boats…

Is it possible that parts have or are in the danger of falling off the viaduct?

This looks to be permanent. There is a no right turn sign approaching it on Adams now. And I think a Do Not Enter sign.
It is kind of annoying – it was a quick way to get out to Willow from back here.

The theater did do a nice job of ripping up, leveling, and replacing the cobble stones here.

Well, if they had actually bought a large enough lot to put up a theater w/ a proper entrance, they wouldn’t have had to close a public street. They didn’t have to put all those condos up next to the theater, they could have moved the whole theater over another 10 feet, left plenty of room for an entrance and not closed off the street. Shoot, they could have put a parking garage where those condos are too. But then again, that would make too much sense and the entire reason we gave them all those variances was to make an entirely worthless piece of property some real value to the developer (plus, it also makes that empty strip mall valuable – now that the theater is open they might be able to rent out all those empty stores).

Just wait until it rains for over an hour and it will be water.

I believe plywood!
The cobblestones look beautiful, though. Court street, after a rain shower, is actually one of my favorite sites in Hoboken.
