10/20/2009:
Cheryl Noble, of the Hoboken Fire Department sent in this note about a cute cat that needs a new home!
Friendly cat dropped off in the dark of night
“Sometime in the middle of the night, the Hoboken Fire Department, Engine Company #3 (201 Jefferson Street), returned from a run to discover an abandoned cat (in a carrying case) with a note that read: Please find Buddy a home. He is 2 years old, neutered, de-clawed, and loves people but not other pets. HFD members released the cat from its cage and found Buddy to be very calm, clean, and friendly.
Anyone interested in adopting Buddy, please call the HFD Secretary, Cheryl Noble at 201-420-2259.”

411 is right. Not protecting against known risks is naïve at best and stupid at worst. Hoboken is an urban area with a significant (enough)number of the feral petty criminal class who freely roam the town. Not guarding against this risk is your own fault.
Would you hike in the Maine woods in July w/o deet?
Would you golf during a lightning storm?
Would you leave food out overnight at a Yellowstone campsite?
(If female) would you hitchhike across Turkey?
You can complain all you want about it being “not right” or bury your head in the sand but failing to grasp that the world has sharp edges is not particularly smart.

I’m glad you realized it. I was wondering what the hell you were talking about.

I would take Buddy in a heartbeat. The article states he doesn’t like other pets. Damn! I have a four year old declawed cat.

I wonder why the cat was dropped off like that? Maybe there’s something wrong with it.

probably nothing wrong with him. my cat lily was discarded the same way. her previous owner (i suppose) left her in Petco, though there was no note. when i rescued her, i didnt even know if she was fixed. the vet had to shave her belly (thankfully she is fixed!). she’s the sweetest and silliest cat. goodluck buddy

People suck, the more people I hear about the more I realize people suck.
