Although Newport has seen some improvements, if I had to choose, I’d drive to the flood-infested swamp that Wayne tends to become, rather than drive 2 minutes to Newport.
Unless, of course, I needed something in a pinch.

i went here maybe 3 times when i was 21 on fri/sat nights and promised myself i’d never go back and i haven’t.
i wouldn’t be surprised if it was ok during the week – much quieter with a different crowd and cheaper drinks.
just because someone likes an awful place an wants to post about it doesn’t necessarily always mean they work there.

Because Newport mall is only nice if you want to buy sneakers. I believe every other store in there is a sneaker store. Crappiest mall around.

I believe it’s only open on the weekends and maybe thursday. Every time i drive by on weekdays it seems closed.

I like to strap on my kevlar vest, go to the Newport Mall and pick up my irregular priced cargo sweatpants at Pay/Half.
Then I go upstairs and talk on my cell phone during a movie.
Son.

There’s a movie theater at Newport Mall?
I went to that mall once, but there were too many “scary-looking” characters there, I couldn’t remember where I parked my car and the JC Police wouldn’t help me find it, and I had run all the way back to the safety of Maxwell Place.

i’ll bet that less than 25% of the people in that mall on any given day are there to buy anything. the majority are there to steal (including the employees) or just to avoid going back to their govt supplied housing.

they have made some improvements there.. not saying it is great or anything. but they do have higher end stores there then they had a few years ago.
I needed to get something at radio shack that the washington street store was out of.. went it there… it wasnt great for sure.. but it is nicer then it was.. there is a coach store in there now and a few other higher end stores.

If you don’t have a car, Newport Mall is a good place to go shopping or at least kill an hour or two. I’ve never had a problem with the people there though I’ll admit most of the employees aren’t very helpful. But it gets the job done.

“kill an hour or two”?? perhaps you folks should move closer to the newport mall. Coach is a high end store? i guess your idea of a jewelry store is the Piercing Pagoda too? what a bunch of losers.

Coach schmoach. I’m far more a fan of Louis Vuitton and their distribution partners than I am of going to a mall. Buying your Louis Vuitton bag on a street corner from a guy who calls himself Louis in in his whatever accent is more classier.

Yeah! Being “accepted” and going through hidden doorways and passageways on Canal Street is much more exciting than going to Newport Mall. Kind of like gaining entrance to a speak-easy club.

I have lived in Hoboken for almost a decade and have a flawless record of never setting foot in Bahama Mamas. Sure I’ve been tempted, the way you’re tempted to look at a twisted car wreck, but managed to keep my morbid curiousity in check.

RE: Newport Mall
Next time you’re there take a good look around because it’s a portal into our future.
This is what the USA will look like in 50 years if current demographic trends continue.
Better get used to it.
