Hoboken Family Pharmacy now open!
Welcome to the latest new addition to the Mile Square: Hoboken Family Pharmacy at 307 First Street!
The pharmacy had a soft opening yesterday, and will celebrate their official Grand Opening all day TODAY.
Be sure to stop by to meet the Owner and Pharmacist in-charge Jaffer Shahid, enjoy some Dames Coffee and even a tasty cupcake while you greet him and look around.
Besides prescriptions and other pharmacy products, vitamins, and other health care items, they also offer free pickup and delivery as well as compounding services. Open six days a week (closed Sundays).
Hoboken Family Pharmacy is also offering a new customer promotion – by providing a $5 store credit for every prescription transferred. Click the coupon above to download form and print.

Added a new photo to the gallery of the upcoming Hoboken Family Pharmacy on First Street. Glad to see them choose a look that may be reminiscent of past businesses like Stemple Pharmacy. Nice touch!

The antithesis of chain drug stores…
New pharmacy coming soon to 307 1st Street
At the height of their popularity two-dozen small, family-owned pharmacies served Hoboken’s ailing public. One by one most have disappeared as big drugstores took over from the little guy. Some like Baron’s, Tucker and Albini have stood the test of time in the face of mega-competition from CVS, Rite-Aid, and (soon) Walgreens. Many others have simply closed up, including Stemple, Carollo’s and Kay’s (and if you remember the last two, you’ve been here a while!)
Now a small pharmacy is about to buck the trend and open on 1st Street just west of Willow Avenue. Listed online as Hoboken Family Pharmacy, it will be conveniently located next door to PromptMD, though it has no formal relationship with the Urgent Care Center.

For what it’s worth Marvin Stemple told me many a time that CVS was not only hard to deal with for doctors but also more expensive for the customer than an independent. I never checked his math but I believe it coming from him.

I was very moved by the article about old “family-run” pharmacies in Hoboken. While I do not often read your articles I was impressed by your historical knowledge of the Marciano’s pharmacies. I always thought you were a relative newcomer to the City. Whether that is true or not does not matter, what does is that your historical facts are great. My sister and I spent our formative years as customers of Carollo’s on 6th and Washington and the Carollo children were playmates of ours. Mrs. Carollo was very kind to both of us and treated us like members of the family. I hope the new business has the success and warmth of those which have gone before.

Love that shot of the Checker cab whizzing by Carollo’s!
TrickyDick reminds us that Hoboken was vibrant well before the matt_72s of the world decided to move in and bash everyone and everything that came before. Too many angry newcomers think everything good about Hoboken started with them, everything that came before was crap, and everyone who was here before them is corrupt.
It would be nice to have a broader historical perspective of what came before. It might help us avoid the mistakes of the past.

visited this pharmacy for the first time today and i was amazed at the friendly courteous customer service. it is an excellent pharmacy. i just transferred all my prescriptions out of cvs to them. i am so glad places like this exist and are not being influenced by the boring chain pharmacies. and their service is much much faster then cvs. he even specially ordered these freezer pops for me that i cant find anywhere.

I was very impressed with the way they handled my prescription that needed a prior authorization. Normally CVS makes me wait a couple of days before even giving me any kind of answer. But they confrenced my doctor and my ins company right in front of me and had my drug approved while I waited for less than 15 mins. I never knew this could be done until now. No other pharmacy has ever done that for me before. It was nice to deal with a pharmacist who actually cares as oppose to the cold CVS staff who makes you come back several times. And they Deliver! I am transferring all my prescriptions from CVS to this pharmacy right away..luv these guys!!! Welcome.
