Reader Mail: Aviation Advisory Board?

8/12/2009:

Hoboken411 reader Jack was wondering – after this extremely rare, freak accident in the sky – why Hoboken doesn’t have an Aviation Advisory Board.

Keep in mind – that this function (if it existed) would likely fall under the realm of the Public Safety Director – whom acting Mayor Dawn Zimmer is looking to eliminate.

Oh my! Lots of planes and copters!

“Why is there no Aviation Advisory Board in Hoboken government? There certainly should be one created given the great number of helicopter overflights not to mention the commercial overflights from Newark Liberty, Teterboro and La Guardia airports. This recent crash demonstrated the need for monitoring all these overflights both from a safety and a noise perspective.”

411 note: This is in line with yesterdays article about how this was a highly unusual accident – and why nothing needs to change whatsoever…

So, this would technically be another board and job that on which an existing city employee would serve? Thus, the employee would get an extra job bonus for the work of participating on the board, extra time toward the pension calculations, and double-dipping in the “longevity pay pool.” Sounds like a nice no show job to me!

I think Hoboken needs a SETI Advisory Board, too.

“This recent crash demonstrated the need for monitoring all these overflights both from a safety and a noise perspective.”

It is critical that we document this information. I suggest the following format:

Date: _______ Time: ________
Subject: Helicopter / Airplane / Aliens / Al Gore
Made Noise? Yes / No | Crashed : Yes / No

If you can’t see how this information is important, there’s no hope for you. Anyone who wouldn’t want to see taxes raised for something like this is crazy!

that’s really funny, with all the access Hoboken has to NYC I hardly think we need any more departments in Hoboken & since we already have a police chief & fire chief we also don’t need a Public Safety director, another made up job!
