Hoboken’s “National Night Out”
You can call it an educational street fair
I’m sure most of you would agree – that Hoboken has seven “nights out” a week, as the mile square is very popular for it’s bars and restaurants. And for the most part, crime levels are not bad for such a densely populated city.
But that doesn’t mean that Hoboken didn’t participate in this year’s National Night Out program!
The National Night Out, which is billed as a “unique crime and drug prevention event,” is being held in the Hoboken Housing Authority (Harrison St. between 2nd and 4th) from 5-9pm tonight. Be advised that street will be closed from 4-10pm.
Police toy showcase!
In addition to food and drink (burgers, dogs, popcorn, soda) and a movie screening (Wall-E), Hoboken Police and other entities will be showing off the cool tools they use in their everyday jobs.
What can you see?
- U.S. Customs: Will show you how they bust criminals with massive x-ray machines used to look into vehicles.
- Hoboken Fire Department: Whips out the “Jaws of Life” that extract you from your wreck when you’ve had too much to drink.
- Hoboken Police: Brings the cute pooches from the K-9 division, and would most likely be the ones chasing you once the cops get winded. Plus a helicopter flyover (doesn’t happen too much here, hey, we’re not L.A.!)
- Others will be there as well, including celebrity soccer play Alex Dufty from the NY Red Bulls, po-po’s from the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and many other organizations that frown down on criminal and nefarious activities.
So if you have any wants or warrants – it’s highly recommended that you STAY AWAY from this event!!!
You can contact HPD’s James Marnell, who organized the event at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
