Another Hoboken intersection accident

8/3/2009:

1st and Willow – a top achiever

A Hoboken411 reader spotted this accident at the corner of 1st and Willow tonight. It’s overheard so often – that I don’t usually mention it unless there’s massive damage and/or injuries.

“Happened a few moments ago. 10:55pm. Silver sedan drove through stop sign and was tboned by SUV. No apparent injuries. police on scene within 2 minutes of accident. This occurs so frequently it barely rates a mention but here’s a pic of it anyway.”

I wonder what our elected officials are doing to make Hoboken a safer place?

The driving spot I hate the most has to be down by the path during the afternoon rush hour.

Legally: the two left lanes turn left onto River and the right lane goes straight. After the turn the left lane is left only onto Newark and the right lane is straight only to continue on River.

This is what people think the rules are:

-Right lane turns left three lanes over cutting everyone off.(especially cabs)

-After the turn the right lane becomes a pickup/drop of spot for shuttle buses to double park and block all traffic. (this is the biggest problem)

-Left turn only lane becomes a go straight and cut everyone off lane.

-Oh yeah and you know that big orange hand that means do not walk??? yeah that apparently means you can walk as long as 20 other people are crossing at the same time.

Put one cop there from about 5 – 7 and he’d probably be able to give out 5-10 tickets every time the light changes. $$$

Or the popular now more then ever center lane left hand turn on Monroe Street, even though the sign is clearly marked right turn only. I have seen drivers in the left lane, myself included, cut that angle down so that drivers from the center lane (rules apparently do not apply to them), are basically headed for the exit door of Hoboken Beer & Soda of the telephone pole right on the corner.

The actual act of making the left does not bother me as much as the attitude that they don’t have to wait in line like the rest of us to make the turn. The second the light turns green they floor it and try to pass me. I wish I drove a SH**box so I could just ram the side of their car when they try to cut me off. just sayin.

The timing on that light just blows. It seems to be set more to inconvenience drivers going South on Monroe and they need to change it to inconvenience the drivers who are just cutting through Hoboken on their way to the tunnel.

I wonder what our elected officials are doing to make Hoboken a safer place?

Like what – rid the town of aggressive d-bags?

Anyone witness the new left-on-red maneuver? I’ve seen it up close several times in the last couple months. Every time it seemed to be a pimped out sedan or SUV driven by a juice head (or wannabe) with spiked hair and/or fake tan.

re: “the new left-on-red maneuver?”

How about that Hoboken Classic Maneuver–> make a right from the left turn lane and eureka no waiting in line like everyone else, simply a marvelous time saver! This maneuver is commonly seen while entering Hoboken from Jersey City at Grove St and Marin Blvd. It and also has a sister move called left from the right hand lane which can been seen daily during rush hour while waiting for your turn to make the left onto Jackson St from Newark/Observer.

OK, gotcha. If you really feel I am overdoing it–fine. I’ll step back.
