Week-long Hoboken Happy Hour!
Ahhh – nothing better than a recession (and gut) busting beer special, right? Especially if it’s all-day and all-week long!
Helmers’ (11th and Washington) is advertising $2 bottles of Budweiser and Miller Lights. You might be able to afford a hangover for only $20 bucks!

It’s a classic Hoboken place. Been around forever. Not really so similar to any that I can think of. It’s got some big old huge booths and huge round tables. There was a fire in that building, but they only had heavy water and smoke damage and repaired the place to look pretty much the same, minus the dust. But it’s a cool place with a nice, really good beer selection. But if you plan on eating make sure you don’t have to be anywhere soon! You might die of hunger before the food is served.

never been here, but agree with the why drink bud and m-lite…if you don’t mind a short light rail ride to JC try the Zeppelin Bar (Jersey Ave stop)…outdoor German-type beer garden…large selection of beer and assorted sausages, brats, etc….plus they don’t seem to be a place that after 10pm starts blarring the bass and becomes a guido hangout (but have only been one – could be wrong)

right on chacha, AB products(American Budweiser, bud lite, michelob), SABmiller products and coors all SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!! these companies would rather spend their money on ADVERTISING, trying to convince the 20 and 30 something crowd to drink shitty tasting beer(and think it’s cool), than brew a better product.
The golden beacon that surrounded Helmers as a classic, unique Hoboken German bar/resturant has been tarnished by carrying the AB/miller/coors line next to Belgian and German world-renowned beers.
Helmers NEVER used to carry that crap. They got their foot in the door on Hoboken St. Patty’s day and the rest is history. It’s sad.

Helmers is great – the beer is good and the food is good. I agree that it is not the type of place to get buds but a 2$ beer on Washington all day long is difficult to come by.

it’s an age thing…most 20-somethings want cheap b/c they just want to get drunk. as one begins to mature around 30 and drink for the taste and maybe a nice buzz (not wasted), one begins to care about the quality of what one is tasting, and, obviously, american beers like those mentioned are not quality. only good american mass-marketed beer is, of course, sam adams.

I love Helmers. The food is great. The beers are great. The staff is nice. The crowd is laid back. I don’t drink bud, coors and miller lite etc.at all. If I did. I definately wouldn’t in a German place. This town is filled with people that do drink those beers. I see nothing wrong with Helmers offering those selections. They are trying to improve their profits. A special such as this. In this economy helps everyone. The Weinstephan Hefe-Weiss is great.
