Fun with numbers: 2033 days

7/17/2009:

Considering it’s Friday – thought I’d share some random humbling stats with you all…

Mega-impossible Millions

I play a buck or two in the Mega Millions drawing each week because “Hey, you never know!”

So I asked myself – “What if no set of numbers can be repeated, how long would it take to draw all possible combinations?”

That answer is: 3,379,068 years. (ouch!)

OK then, what if they had a drawing every second of every day?

Answer: 2033 days (or a bit over 5 1/2 years).

I think I’ll stick to the Jersey Cash 5 – which has enormously better odds.

I like to play a dollar or two, sometimes. Beats getting a manicure, for example, considering the harmful, overwhelming fumes in salons so many pay far more funds to inhale.

I saw this when I was much younger.

Lotto – a tax on people that can’t do math.

Better odds yes, but have you won anything?
